Re-thinking Newark - Working Landscape
Newark is one of the nation’s oldest industrial cities and the largest city in New Jersey. Like many older industrial cities, Newark has legacy of both grand historic open spaces and environmental degradation. Newark has lowest acreage of open space per capita of any major city in the country, only 2.9 acres of parks per 1,000 residents, ranking it at the bottom of 55 major cities in the United States. At present Newark has only 5.3% of open space.
Open Space Planning
Location: open spaces, browneld sites, vacant land, superfund sites near active conrail lineVision: To open up the existing industrial landscape along the Conrail corridor to Newark residents, visitors and workers by remediating and linking superfund sites. To transform this space int a recreational/educational amenity and wildlife habitat while preserving and showcasing its industrial character.

Emergency Preparedness Plan for Limerick Nuclear Powerplant using GIS Application Limerick Generating Station is located in southeastern Pennsylvania, about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia in Mont-gomery County. The power plant consists of two reactor units - the rst reactor unit was activated in 1986 and the second was activated in 1990. Utility companies, in this case – Exelon, are granted a 40-year operating license to use the nuclear facility. In some cases, these utility companies are granted a 20-year license extension – the current license expirations are 10/26/2024 (unit 1) and 06/22/2029 (unit 2).
