Hello, my name is Anne-Marije Scheffe. I studied Architecture at the TU Delft and I graduated in june 2011. My master was in Architectural Engineering. This direction combines architecture and building technology. During my Master I did an Erasmus semester at the Helsinki University of Technology TKK in Finland. Here I found a love for simplicity, minimalism and functionality of Scandinavian design.

Later while living and traveling in China I have seen and experienced Chinese living and community, like the round tulou’s build by Haka Chinese. The culture of communalism and putting the group before oneself is very different from European, this was represented in their architecture although more in the past than in the current architecture.

In China I worked at D-office for six months. This is a part of the recommendation letter from D-office. “Ms. Scheffe is a dedicated person both to the projects ... as to the people she has been working with. She has the ability to deal with pressure and can fulfill her task with efficient and flexible manner. Her friendly considerate personality made her a valuable colleague in the office.”.

In my portfolio I included some of my favorite projects. The projects have a wide range from urban plan-ning to furniture design.

I AM Social

TreevillageTreevillage is a sustainable community. The community is lifted of the ground to leave space for Flora and Fauna. The community has space for around 50 houses. This number is based on the amount of social interactions that is best suited to most people. There are three spaces within the community. They each have their own theme. The themes are: En-trance (Welcome), Children (playing) and Water (sustainability). The Water space is focused on the cleaning of water. A small harbour and busboat give a connection to Haarlem and

Amsterdam.

RENOVATED HARBOUR BUILDINGThe renovation of an old harbor building in Scheveningen. The old harbor building was used in the past for fish auctions. The main focus of this assignment was sustainability. The old structure of the building was kept to show its history while new houses are built inside. The houses are passive houses, by insulating the house and using installations adapted for heating and ventilation in passive houses a minimal of energy is used. By creating different size houses a social sustainability was also created. There were both single family homes with a communal meeting space but also apartments for the elderly and housing for people with a disability who need extra care. By combining these different social groups it creates

a lively society that continues to be divers and lively.

COMMUNITY PARKThe images on these pages are a representation of the possible future of the drain canal in The Hague. By talking with the community it was determined which where the places which needed the most care and which facilities were needed. For example a bare piece of ground can be transformed into an urban farming plot where the community can come to-gether but also cleaning facades and adding same style fences to create a safe and clean

living environment. The photo’s are edited with photoshop.

REHABILITATION CLINICThe diagrams are for an analysis of a rehabilitation clinic. The experience of the building can contribute in the patient’s wellness. To get an overview of what the patient’s daily life will be like and how this interacts with the daily life of the staff a day program was trans-lated into diagrams. The square diagrams shows the intensity in use and amount of us-ers, the circular diagram shows the movement from one room to another. By using these diagrams the design can be adapted to the experience that is desired, for example that between therapy and dinner there can be a long walk to clear your mind and to go to in-dividual therapy the patient has to step outside of the building to disengage from the rest

of the group.

SHENZHEN-HONKONG BIENNALEThere is a lot of history between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Hong Kong was a colony of Britain from approximately 1842 till 1997. After this it became the first Special Administra-tive Region of the People’s Republic of China. China promised to leave the rules and regu-lations as they were in Hongkong, for example freedom of press, for 50 years. After these fifty years it is not clear what will happen. Shenzhen became China’s first special economic zones since the reform and opening up of China. This city has grown rapidly in the last 30 years. We researched the current and historical relationship between the two city’s to create a border area and what caused this. For example the exploding growth of children born in Hong Kong is a result of Chinese mother wanting to give their children a Hong Kong nationality so that they can have better education and easier acces to the rest of the world.

CHURCH RENOVATIONThe request was to look into a new function for this church. It is located in a small town in the randstad area. It needed to be used for Church events a few times in the year but it’s should generate income the rest of the year in order to maintain the church. We looked into

exposition area, restaurant, library and event centre.

EXPOSITION PAVILIONThis design was an exposition pavilion. The pavilion needed to have one large open space for large art objects. The way the window seperations are divided is completely random. This creates different views depending on the viewers location. For this design the focus was on the detailing. The glass is integrated between the window dividers which makes it look like there is nothing between these dividers. The bottom of the divider is a little from the ground, the construction is held back a little which makes it look like it floats. The doors

are integrated in the system and are not visible unless opened.

FLOWERSHADINGA facade shading was designed for an interactive facade. The shape is a flower. This was done to imitate a flower curtain to make people feel at home in their office. We designed the flower and the system that operates it. At the end of the course we built the working

prototype.

Building over a highwayThis project was the final project for my bachelor. The design was ready made. It is a build-ing over a highway. The assignment was to calculate the construction, design the facade

and design the inner climate.

hotelfacadeA High end hotel on a prominent location in gambling paradise Macau was looking for a facade design. Macau is full of sparkling facades. This facade has an amethyst concept. A glass facade with a light gradient is broken up by sparkling purple crystals. (the ren-ders were made by a render company)

chinese primary schoolChina has strict rules concerning secondary schools. The concept of this design is that

all the classrooms are divided over the first, second, third and fourth floor. The cubes in the courtyard contain the teacher’s functions. Chinese schoolchildren have ten minute breaks between classes. In these ten minutes they will have easy access to one of the

play area’s on top of the cubes. Each playground has different functions.

welfare complexThis welfare centre houses a orphanage and an elderly centre. These two groups of in-habitants needed to be separated. A medical centre separates the two courtyards. The outside facade is made of brick which gives the appearance of a home while the inside

(courtyard) is wood to create a warm, natural feeling.

3dDuring my studies and after I have worked with various 3D programs such as MAYA, Sketch-UP, Rhino, ArchiCAD and Revit. Some of these programs I have worked with for years and have an advanced level but other I only have a few months (ArchiCAD) or even a week (Revit) experience. I enjoy working with these programs and creating buildings in 3D

and am skilled at quickly picking up new skills.

Drawing and photographyIn my spare time I like to draw and take photographs (preferably while traveling). I sketch interesting things while traveling but also at times follow a drawing course to improve my skills. During my studies I have done a course in Photography and have kept taking pic-

tures ever since.

FascinationMy architectural fascination has two sides. First is the fascination with Scandinavian ar-chitecture. The simple shapes, use of natural materials and minimalistic design. During my time in Finland I have seen many of Alvar Aalto’s buildings. My second fascination is with the way people live. Having lived in a few different countries for short periods of time and having friends from many different parts of the world I have become fascinated with the

differences in housing and communities
