Mrs. Spaulding was raised in Greece before her family moved to theU.S. when she was in high school. Mr. and Mrs. Spaulding requested that thedesigner integrate Greek culture and design elements into their new home.

The master bedroom is an elegant and romantic retreat for Mr. and Mrs. Spaulding. The bedroom has an analogous color scheme, incorporating the use of rich gold and red tones commonly seen in Greek art and design, through a variety of materials. The wood flooring gives the spaceadditional sophistication and warmth, while the intricate detailing of the furniture conveys a feeling of Greek architecture.

The living room features an elegant, custom fireplace which serves as the focal point in the space. The sofa selections and wroughtiron tables have curvilinear forms, reminiscent of the lines seen in Greek architecture. The wallpaper is a soft yellow hue with a variety of textures, providing the appearance of stucco. The darker tones of the upholstery and carpet provide a nice contrast between the soft tones of the walls and casework, and can easily hide stains for the young family and their newborn baby.

The shapes of a quilt were used to inspire a 2-D design, which was then further abstracted into a 3-D model. Eventually, individual spaces and pieces of furniture were designed using the process in entirety as inspiration.

Café Envy will have a healthy, organic atmosphere with clean lines and contemporary features. An organic atmosphere will be accomplished through the use of natural and sustainable materials. The existing concrete floor will be stained and utilized throughout the entire floor plan, while bamboo will be featured on accent walls, in conjunction with low VOC wall paint, to add warmth and contrast to the cool concrete flooring. Circular shapes will be cut out of the bamboo walls, placed asymmetrically, and used as door openings to add an interesting element of positive and negative space. An analogous color scheme of red, orange, and yellow hues will be utilized to provide the contemporary space with a warm and inviting atmosphere. A focal point will be created in the main seating area with the placement of a semi-circular banquette seating arrangement with a back-lit glass panel above it. Overall, Café Envy will be a refreshing, contemporary, and environmentally friendly restaurant for guests to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.
