Habitat #1: Asian Elephant

Scientific Name: Elephas Maximus

Maintenace: Day to Day

Staff has to give the elephant a thorough bath.

Make sure there stables(tethering place) stays clean.

Have fresh clean water to drink. Feed the elephant the natural diet of

125 pounds of hay, ten pounds of herbivore pellets, ten pounds of vegetables and fruits, and a few leafy branches.

Pool for the elephants should be cleaned.

Medical Treatment

Examinations for parasites and vaccinations to prevent sickness should be carried out regularly.

Medical checkups for the upkeep of elephant should be once every two years to check for diseases.

No drugs or intoxications should be used on elephant unless prescibed.

Safe Public Viewing

The zoo’s has an outdoor area and indoor barn or stable for the elephants.

The stable is private but the outdoor yard is viewable for the public.

All of the elephant area is enclosed behind a large steel gate that is 20 feet high .

The steel is spaced enough so you can see threw the bars but still close enough so baby can not slip threw.

Also there is an staircase that leads up to a higher view for the elephant.

This includes a ramp and also rail that is handicap accessible.

The barn includes a chute for the elephants. The chute is an important tool for restricting the

elephant’s movement. Hydraulically operated moving walls allow keepers and vet staff to safely hold an elephant in place while they conduct foot examinations, draw blood samples, administer injections and perform other routine medical and husbandry procedures.

Protection from Severe Weather

The barn also is used for when there is severe weather and harsh storms.

Just move all the elephants inside for protection.

The barns include rubber covered sheds to prevent lightning strikes.

Also when it is cold has heated plates for elephants.

The barn gives the elephants maximum protection from storms.

Habitat #2: Pygmy Marmosets

Scientific Name: Callithrix Pygmaea

Maintenance: Day to Day

The living environment should be well cleaned and upkeep.

Make sure that you keep water in the primates bowl.

Fresh fruit and berries are out for the primates to eat.

Primates pretty much clean each other and groom themselves.

Trees are groomed and loose branches are cut.

Very active primates so interact with them and give treats.

Make sure cut and trim the nails on the claws also.

Medical Treatment

Routine check ups on the monkeys from diseases and sickness.

All vaccinations for animals are to be given before putting with other primates.

No drugs or intoxications are to be given with out prescription.

Safe Public Viewing

The primates are kept in the natural encounters building.

So the exhibit is very viewable with only glass splitting area from visitors.

Glass is thick and sustainable so ,primates can not break lose.

Also allows visitors to view every move of the primates and what they do.

Protection from Severe Weather

Since the primates are in a building they are very safe from storms.

Though building has a lot of glass, the glass is very thick and strong.

Primates will not have t worry about storms since they are kept in this building. Building is also made out of break so will survive through a strong storm.
