The Evolution of a Pergola
Initial drawing by Customer
The backyard location
Design work was created from customers ideas
This work was done by Terry Elliott. He used the sketch drawing done by the customer and the location of where the pergola was to be built to inform his dimensions and design.
It was decided that there needed to be a centerpiece for the pergola structure. A wine barrel was the inspiration
Wine Barrel Idea applied to Pergola
Custom Designed Wine Barrel Strap
This was designed with Google Sketch Up. This Sketch Up design was sent to a blacksmith and cast.

Set up and prep-workThe concrete forms are placed in specified locations where the pillars of the pergola will sit. They are dug out and placed beneath the surface to hide the concrete.
The pergola structure pieces are placed with precision
After the concrete is poured and set the pillars are installed. A transit is used to make sure all the pieces are placed exactly where they need to be.
The pillars get wrapped with CedarAfter the structural pieces are in place the pillars get wrapped with tight knot cedar. This is both for beauty and weathering purposes.
Bracket installationAfter the cedar wrap was placed the brackets were
installed.
