ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation

Introduction

This is the final project of the module Elements of Natural and Built Environment The title of the project is “The Future City Representation”. Based on this project, the thing that i have to do is propose a new layout of my new city. I shall also understand the relationship of elemnt of natural and built environment. In addition. Students are required to plan and design a futuristic city which is sustainable in future. Before designing, students are required to research on ancient, present and future cities to help on understanding what is a city. Besides, while planning the future city students shall consider and include the following aspects such as the geometric shape, main focus, zoning of the city and many more.

This project allows students to understand the component and elements of a city and how to create a better future city and learn how will a city work.

The City

The City DefinitionA center of population, commerce, and culture; a town of significant size and importance

What is the brief history

Cities exist for many reasons, and the diversity of urban forms can be traced to the complex functions that cities perform. Cities serve as centers of storage, trade, and manufacture. The agricultural surplus from the surrounding countryside is processed and distributed in cities. Cities also grew up around marketplaces, where goods from distant places could be exchanged for local products. Throughout history, cities have been founded at the intersections of transportation routes, or at points where goods must shift from one mode of transportation to another, as at river and ocean ports.

Religious elements have been crucial throughout urban history. Ancient peoples had sacred places, often associated with cemeteries or shrines, around which cities grew. Ancient cities usually had large temple precincts with monumental religious buildings. Many medieval cities were built near monasteries and cathedrals.

Secure water supply Sold Economy Transportation network Strong tax base Good School Good police protection Affordable housing Affordable medical, social services , sanitation and fire protection

What is the future city

There are currently many future city concepts and some future city projects were even started construction. Based on research, everything in a future city, from the electricity grid, to sewer pipes to roads, building and cars will be connected to the network. Building will turn off the light for your, sekf-driving cars will find you that sought-after paarking space, even the rubbisbh bin will be smart.

More than that, a future city will have smart residents where they were high educated, equipped with different abilities such as social skills, creativity and technical skills. The people in the city will also has a good moral value and environmental friendly educated since young.

In other aspects, a future city should be a city equipped with high technology and uses renewable energy which cause no harm to the environment. In other way, the future city is also a city that protects and enhance the environment.

When did it start? History and all

Babylon was founded at some point prior to the reign of Sargon of Akkad (also known as Sargon the Great) who ruled from 2334-2279 BCE and claimed to have built temples at Babylon (other ancient sources seem to indicate that Sargon himself founded the city). At that time, Babylon seems to have been a minor city or perhaps a large port town on the Euphrates River at the point where it runs closest to the river Tigris.

What ancient city are you concentrating on?

Babylon is the most famous city from ancient Mesopotamia whose ruins lie in modern-day Iraq 59 miles (94 kilometres) southwest of Baghdad. The name is thought to derive from bav-il or bav-ilim which, in the Akkadian language of the time, meant ‘Gate of God’ or `Gate of the Gods’ and `Babylon’ coming from Greek. The city owes its fame (or infamy) to the many references the Bible makes to it; all of which are unfavourable. In the Book of Genesis, chapter 11,Babylon is featured in the story of The Tower of Babeland the Hebrews claimed the city was named for the confusion which ensued after God caused the people to begin speaking in different languages so they would not be able to complete their great tower to the heavens

What makes is a significant city and what are the details?

The city is known for its impressive walls and buildings, its reputation as a great seat of learning and culture, the formation of a code of law which pre-dates the Mosaic Law, and for the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which were man-made terraces of flora and fauna, watered by machinery,

Conclusion about the cities

Babylon is a very interesting and mysterious city to be discovered. Its complex structure, how it was built, and why it was built are an impossible for the people during that time. Many archeologist interest in Babylon archaeology and yet still begin excavated the ruin.

When did it start? History and all

Freiburg was founded by Konrad and Duke Bertold III of Zähringen in 1120 as a free market town;[4] hence its name, which translates to "free (or independent) town". Frei means "free", and Burg, like the modern English word "borough", was used in those days for an incorporated city or town, usually one with some degree of autonomy.[5] The German word Burg also means "a fortified town", as in Hamburg. Thus, it is likely that the name of this place means a "fortified town of free citizens"

What makes is a significant city and what are the details?

Freiburg promotes itself as a Green city—especially in the areas of transportation, energy, waste management, land conservation, and green economics—and the city has won various national and international environmental awards. Actually, in some respects (e.g., waste management), Freiburg is much like other German cities. But in the areas of energy and green economics, it is particularly outstanding.

Conclusion about the cities

The Freiburg im Breisgau is a great city which promotes green factors and environments. The most committed leaders [of the anti-nuclear movement] joined the political arena, the administration, the utilities, found a job in educational or research activities or founded green-spirited companies.” Freiburg’s mayor and one-fourth of the city council are Green Party member.

The Vinne city

How did you came up with the solution to create this new cityBy doing lots of reserarch on underground city. Most underground city is lack of nature. Then i came up with this idea of creating a underground city with nature friendly and renewable resource city.

Why is it in underground

The City of Vinne is an underground city as the outside is not suitable for human live. Besides, due to the global warming, the temperature outside is too high for human to live. With the natural protection and resistance of heat of the ground, the city is built in underground.

What is the important characteristic and elements

The entrance is a big half moon shape. It was generally to use as solar panel. Inside it there will be lot of tree so people living inside it will have fresh air and will observe the heat from the sun. The centre of it will be the platform where the peoples aboard from the elavator and get to the deep into the ground, which is the place where the Vinne located. The underground structure of the city got 4 level and which connecting the bullet train stations in the Vinne.

The Vinne is a well-planned eco-city where every place had its own use.

The zoning of Vinne

The main energy source of the city is solar energy, where there will be solar panels on top of the tree to obtain sunlight to produce energy.

Water ReserviorUsing a pipe to pump the sea water to filterite the seawater into drinking water.

The bullet train link

Monuments and religious building can be found in the City of Vinne too.

The main income of the city is from the agriculture and industry. The city will has agricultural area with green house and because of it located beside the sea, it easy to have organic food for people in the city and also for exportation.

Conclusion In this project I learn a lot about city. There are many things to consider before building a city, not just doing it as you wanted to do so. We need to do lot of research how shall i city we going to build look like and how we wan it to be. I realized many things in our daily life which is so normal and ease to obtain is actually a giant structure underground such as the water supply system, sewage treatments and others. A good city is not based on its appearance but also sustainability, livability and much more different aspects. Hence, we should really keep our city clean and protect our city, keep away from polution and other activities that harm our cities or one day we might really going stay in underground Every city is the hard work of every constructor, designer and government. We should all protect and enhance the place we live together and to produce a great living place for everyone.
