Kyiv Regional Session 4-7 April, 2012

ecological problems have been a matter of public concern for a long time. every year ecological issues become more and more serious and coping with them is amongst highest priorities of international community. eu-rope is actively engaged in solving urgent problems of the environment, moreover, some european countries give an outstanding example of

introducing the newest technologies and appropriate legislation for environmental protection. Thus, the initiative young europeans can’t but think green today.

Mr. Riaan Stipp, PReSidenT

Dear Delegates,The role of green conferences has changed dramatically in the last few years. While the

movement for more environmentally friendly politics used to be only supported by under-dogs, it has now made its way into mainstream politics, the media and the centre of society. This causes the question for their necessity to arise: Do we really need another Think Green event? But, just as back then, the only answer is a loud and clear: Yes!. Let me clarify why.

Like most problems, also environmental issues, need to be addressed in two steps. Firstly, awareness needs to be created for the specific problem, a step that has been taken. But recognising a difficulty is not enough. For that reason the second obligatory step is finding a solution and implementing it. This is where we stand today. Yet, the long list of failed inter-national climate conferences is proof enough for the inability of the international community to work together.

For that reason, I call out to the youth of Europe, not only to tell their politicians what is being done wrong, but actually to come to the Ukraine and to show, how it is done right.

I am very excited to welcoming you to Kyiv soon and seeing you prove that an interna-tional cooperation is possible.

Sincerely,Riaan Stipp President of the Session

The event will give participants a unique op-portunity to visit the capital of Ukraine and the very heart of Slavic culture. one can’t but admire Kyiv with its numerous domes, which correlate perfectly well with the modern

buildings. It is not only the architecture that attracts al-most billion tourists each year. International guests are also impressed by numerous parques and squares; by width of the Dnipro (the third largest river of europe); the depth of the underground (one of the deepest stations in the world - arsenalna - 105.5 metres) and also by the mentality of Ukrainians, always glad to welcome foreigners.

Kyiv is the largest city of Ukraine with - officially - over 3.4 million inhabitants (unofficially up to 5.0 million).

Kyiv is an important industrial, scientific, educational and cultural centre of eastern europe. It is home to many high-tech industries, higher education institutions and world-famous historical landmarks. The infrastructure of the city is increasing dynamically. In recent years it has

improved dramatically since Kiyv alongside with three other Ukrainian cities will host the euro 2012. The city is situated on the crossway of the strategically important international routes.

Kyiv is one of the oldest cities in eastern europe, dat-ing back to the 5th century, although settlements at this location existed much earlier. By the late 9th century, Kyiv had become the de facto capital of an emerging eastern Slavic state. Between the 10th and early 13th centuries, the city reached its golden age as the capital of the first Ukrainian state known today as Kievan Rus.

modern Kyiv is a mix of the old and the new, seen in everything from the architecture to the stores and to the people themselves. It is said that one can walk from one end of Kyiv to the other in the summertime without leav-ing the shade of its many trees. Kyiv is known as a green city with two botanical gardens and numerous large and small parks. Come to this beautiful place and see it all with your own eyes!

The session’s aim is to engage young people in discussing ecological problems and seeking for their solu-tions. The decisions made today are to determine for how long humanity will be able to make use of the natural resources of our planet. Year 2012 is the milestone on the lifepath, for the way, in which we cope with today’s ecological crisis, will affect the future of further generations. Thus european youth is eager to discuss the prob-lems of environmental protection and develop efficient solutions in order to ensure better future for our planet.

Farewell party

The Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National Uni-versity of Kyiv is one of the best uni-versities in Ukraine. official meetings with diplomats and political figures,

scientific conferences as well as major students’ celebrations are frequently held in the premises of the Institute. The Institute serves perfectly well its main function – education, but it is also a place for socialization. one of the distinguishing character-istics of the socialization in IIR is fashion and style matters.

Euroconcert will be held in the spirit of the In-stitute – aristocracy, glamour and fashion. We ex-pect you to be dressed appropriately to the theme of the concert. for ladies it is a cocktail dress, for gentlemen it is a formal suit.

Institute is known for having not only academ-ically outstanding but also very talented students, that is why Kyiv RS organising team decided to invite several performers from Institute of Interna-tional Relations to share the stage with outstand-ing delegates of the Session!

So get ready to dive into an atmosphere of aris-tocracy together with Kyiv Regional Session!

Euroconcert

ok, so we know it is the end of the world. But we know for sure that every ending has to be done in style. This time - in Soviet style.

No one can deny that the end of So-viet era was truly the end of the world for a couple of generations. Yet, they survived it and have built a bet-ter world from the pieces of a broken one. We have so much to learn from them. So the farwell night of Kyiv RS will be the perfect opportunity for you to show your own view on Soviet style.

Get your red ties ready, young pioneers! lots of things to relive and remember: Jive-dancing lessons and first astronaut from the 60s, nevalyashka-dolls and first tape-recorders from the 70s, olympic ted-dy-bear and great music from the 80s and of course, overwhelming freedom of the 1991. This party, as well as Soviet era, is the one to remember.
