INTERIOR DESIGN:Look BookBy: Sydney Torres
BEFORE:The Room
The room is very dull and lacks a focal point
other than an old photograph that does not really match the
room.
AFTER:
The room now has a focal point. The headboard and decorative wreath draw
attention to the back wall. The window treatments also add a pop of color.
BEFORE:The Bed
Although the comforter is a nice color and pattern, the bed lacks anything to make it stand out. Without a headboard, the bed
looks very ordinary and uninviting.
AFTER:
Adding an accent pillow makes the bed pop and seem more inviting. The handmade headboard
adds a personal touch to the design of the room.
BEFORE:The Bedside Tables
The side tables and the lamps are very
mismatched and do not really flow with the
other parts of the room. They do not suit
the space well.
AFTER:
The bedside tables now match each other. They
also tie in with the colors throughout the rest of the room. The
lamps match each other as well and are a
great decorative element in the space.
FINISHING TOUCHES:
In order to tie everything in the room together, I added a few finishing touches. I
changed the knobs on the dressers to a distressed silver which matched the other
accents in the room. I added a leaning mirror and removed the one attached to the dresser for better functionality. To better fill the space, I put a bench at the end of the
bed. I also created a wall hanging using the same wood from which I made the
headboard. All of these things helped make the room become a more homey living
space.
