Woodside House is one of the finest buildings in Haringey, built by the Victorians in the Italianate style, in an attractive parkland setting.

Centrally located and now under-used and in need of refurbishment, Woodside House offers the opportunity to create a new civic heart for Haringey.

The brownfield site to the east of Woodside House provides a clear opportunity to upgrade the historic house and park.

Our consultants have looked carefully at different ways to create a new civic space at Woodside House.

We wanted to find a way to improve the house not replace it, and we wanted a civic centre that all Haringey people can be proud of.

A high-quality new building will complement the old to create a new civic landmark for Haringey.

Woodside House has been a civic building for more than a century

Built as an imposing private home around 1865, Woodside House came into public ownership in 1893, and was home to Wood Green Council from 1913 to 1958. Now it can resume its civic role for the 21st century

The new building will replace untidy brownfield car parking and outbuildings. It will not encroach on the park.

We hope that a new civic landmark at the heart of the park will help us win funding to achieve Green Flag status for Woodside.

What happens next? Detailed plans will now be drawn up so that a planning application can be submitted in the next few months. There will be consultation when the application goes in.

Plans will also be made to ensure that the new building meets high standards of energy efficiency, and that construction work is managed to cause least disruption to the park and local people.
