Screenplay Outer MotivationBob is young man in his early twenties , who looks uncomfortable due to the setting and his suit which only gives him the formal look but not the confidence to go with it, enters the office in order to talk to the boss of the company he is starting out for. We can observe his lack of confidence through his facial expressions and body manner as he walks over to the boss. The boss is a smug and values himself over others, he has a sarcastic sense of humor and an air of sleaziness and dishonesty around him. the balance of power is clearly in favor of the boss, which can be seen through their conversation as bob is very nervous which contrasts the arrogant nature of the boss. Bob is handed the makeup product box, and then shortly proceeds to leave. The bosses main motivation at this stage are to assess whether Bob is a potential future employee. Bob’s motivation on the hand is to quickly enter the business world and secure employment, alongside also not letting down and disappointing his potential new boss like he has everyone else due to his college dropout status which makes him an outcast among his family and friends. He believes if he can quickly establish himself in the world through minimal effort that is the best possible outcome, however he lacks the confidence and decisiveness to do so earlier so he believes this is his big chance. Then he is seen in the suburban neighborhood, unsuccessful yet still desperately determined to make a sale. He is walking over to the last house on the list, which seems to be more of a challenge with each step. As he arrives in an exhausted manner, he slowly walks up the steps as his feet feel heavier with each step. He knocks on the door, and impatiently awaits an answer. When a younger chav girl answers, Bobs hopes are revived as he attempts to put on his best sales pitch and finally take a first leap forward towards his corporate success. Through the rest of script we can see his struggles to achieve his goal and how strong are his motivations.

Screenplay Inner MotivationAlthough at the beginning of the film the main character may look like he has gotten a chance in life to prove himself that he is worth something as he does not want to waste this opportunity. He has already dropped out of college and currently does not see a bright future for himself. As he has taken the easy road in life up until now and has never really worked for or been committed to anything. This serves as a motivating factor hat despite this being unnatural and not his usual self which can be seen through his lack of self-confidence and confusion at the general situation. His commitment is seen as he has visited every house on the list despite no success. Bob’s discomfort with the situation can be seen through his reserved nature and stuttering yet there is also a desperate in him.

ConflictOverall there is also the complete conflict between business people, his boss, and regular ones, Bob, which can be seen through their attitudes and mannerism as they display two completely different levels of confidence. This also serves to show how the corporate world is in reality the predator compared to the rest of society and how they will use any mean, in this film Casey, to prove their superiority and display their dominance despite seeming to be your friend and supporter. The power struggle between Bob and Casey also serves to show how two regular people attempt to make their survival through trying to deceive and delude the other, while the corporate man is living the high life safely somewhere else as his working days are secured and stable compared to Bobs. The main purpose of the story is too criticize the modern consumerist society and the corporate world for their lack of morals, due to their treatment of consumer and employees.

Character ProfileBob Rider is the main character for “The Salesman”, a short film comedy. He is in his early twenties, tall, has black hair and eyes and an air of confusion around him wherever he goes. Bob is a middle-class college dropout who does not seem to have the prospects of a good career and future.

Although he may seem as a pushover and incompetent due t his self-confidence issues and nervous body language and mannerism, there is a deeper motivation within him as he wishes to be successful, even through shortcuts wherever possible.

His lack of presence and assertiveness, as he is overpowered by both Mr. Smith and Casey when they are together, are there to portray his complexes from being a college dropout as it has undermined his goal of easy employment and life.

Overall he represents the average consumer who does not know the greater scheme of things and is easily taken advantage of.
