LANGUAGE AND FONT.

The font for the magazine logo is the same as they use on the masthead on their covers. This is keeping the page exclusive to the magazine. It is bold and eye-catching and works well with the more subtle, lighter font used on the page.

The reference to the festival ‘Istancool’ is something that only a certain group of people will be aware of and this makes the magazine instantly relating to certain people who are aware of the festival which is a ‘prestigious art, design, fashion, film, music, literature and architecture festival’. This will instantly attract an arty and fashionable audience who are interested in creative culture.

The San Serif font used is evenly and nicely spaced out so that it is clear to read and contrasts to the more condensed text on the page. It is also bigger which indicates that they are the titles and is clear and quick for the reader top identify and read.

Again, they don’t include any titles of articles and focus on the photographer’s name which keeps it exclusive and recognisable to certain people and unrecognisable to some readers.

Listing artists and musicians featured gives the reader a quick overview of what is in the music section quickly which will also help to show potential readers efficiently what is in the magazine which will make them want to buy it.

IMAGERY.

The image is very young and fun, featuring a young model dressed in vibrant, bright coloured clothing. The image has direct eye contact with the reader which directly addresses the audience directly. The hair styling is particularly unique and 'out there' which will attract an audience open to new styles and experimental styles. Because the model's hands are pressed together, it makes the image look very symmetrical which I really like as it gives the page a layout and a shape. There is only one image on this TOC which is unconventional for a TOC which usually contain multiple images.

LAYOUT/DESIGN.

I really like the unconventional and simplistic layout and design of this TOC. The way the text is placed is really effective and unique and is a good way for readers to easily find what they are looking for. I love the cut out effect of filling the text boxes white so this extends out against the colourful background.

I like the use of white space as it makes the page look simplistic and on trend design-wise. It also makes the text easier to read and link to the page numbers. I want to include white space similarly in my own TOC to create a minimalistic feel to the page.

I like the use of the of the line above to keep the running linear layout of the page.

COLOUR.

This particular table of contents is extremely colourful, using a background of a mixture of colours to create a really youthful and fun contents page which is appealing to the eye and makes up for the page not having multiple images. It makes the page look really lively and also makes a reader want to the read on. It also makes the page look really light-hearted and not too serious which is inviting to a reader. The colour scheme isn't matching to a particular 'house style' which is sort of unconventional but I like that it is different to other pages in the magazine as this keeps all the pages different and exciting.
