Post-Apocalyptic films often have different types of costumes based on the nature of the apocalypse within that universe. Whilst there are a few common uses of costume, some films or specific apocalypses feature similar types of clothing.

These films have some of the largest variety of costumes for a series of this genre; the protagonist, Max, wears a leather jacket and

trousers, a costume which has become symbolic of the ‘lone road warrior’ stereotype. On the other hand, the assorted bandits wear a huge variety of clothing, from chainmail capes, etc. to leather belts,

tyres and hockey masks.

Similar to Mad Max, the protagonist of I Am Legend also wears a leather jacket, which is symbolic of the ‘lone drifter’. However, this clothing is also

a more casual variant; whilst it’s a leather jacket, it’s not a motorcyclist’s leather jacket, but this is to keep the clothing in theme with the film’s

more modern audience.

As this film is set in a ‘flooded world’ scenario, the character’s clothing differs from other films of the genre by having more appropriately

nautical clothing in comparison to the previous films. Clothing is also significantly lighter, which makes sense given the need to traverse water

in this environment.
