Stations 101What’s needed to make a Station Work?

• Main Entrance• Secondary Entrance• Passenger Transportation

(elevators, escalators)• Mechanical and Electrical Systems • Ventilation Shafts and Ventilation

Fan Rooms• Traction Power Substations

• Reduce construction impacts (traffic, staging area, noise, dust)

• Preserve public space and development potential

• Fiscally responsible

Overall Design Principle:Consolidate Surface Elements to enhance design & minimize impacts

Consolidated Layout (2012)

Key advantages:A consolidated layout provides passengers with a clear point of entry into the station

• Entrance locations coincide with bus routes/stops• Passenger travel from street level to concourse

minimized• Primary Entrance accessible to passengers from

Eglinton Avenue and bus loop drop off area• Station street level buildings respectful of

surrounding context, while preserving for future development as envisioned by Avenues Study

• Reduced construction footprint, impacts, costs - avoiding major utility relocation
