Product Arduino is a popular open-source single-board microcontroller, descended from the open-source Wiring platform. The hardware consists of a simple open hardware design with an Atmel processor and on-board input/output support. Co-founders of the project Gianluca Martino, Massimo Banzi, David Cuartielles

Product It's a less expensive prototyping device.Goes hand and hand with a software side, written in Java and based on Processing.

History Originally began in Ivrea, Italy to control student-built interaction design projects. The Arduino project is a fork of the open-source Wiring Platform. Wiring was created by Colombian artist and programmer Hernando Barragán as a master's thesis at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea.

Financial This is actually an interesting question....Open-source Arduino Environment....Potentially hand built digitally crafted products....

Reselling the product seems to be the main market.

Could be developed cheaper but...."...at least you know that who made your board was reasonably paid and worked in a safe environment."

Financial How do they make money? 1. Not to worry about selling much hardware but instead to sell your expertise as the inventor. 2. Sell your device but try to keep ahead of the competition.

Interesting

The support given to it by the Maker communityimplies a bit more respect for the original. There are more than 150k Arduinos on the market. IDE Runs on Macs, Linux, and Win ・Driver works On Macs, Linux, and Win ・Sensors ・ Simple, But Not Too Simple

Low Cost ・ Open Source
