RTA releases new image of Dubai Canal bridge on SZR Traffic will be diverted from October 25 to facilitate construction The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released an image of how the eight-lane bridge that will carry Sheikh Zayed Road over Dubai Canal will look when complete. Diversions are expected to be in place on the road from October 25 as the work affects an 800m stretch. In a statement issued this week, the RTA said: “The contractor will embark on traffic diversion works on the Sheikh Zayed Road in the direction from Dubai to Abu Dhabi next July such that the traffic diversion will be made on October 25.” The bridge is part of the canal project’s first phase, which is costing in excess of $136mi. A $104.5m contract for phase two of the Dubai Water Canal Project, which will link Dubai Creek with the Arabian Gulf, was issued for phase two earlier this week to China State Corporation. Work will be finished in the final quarter of 2016 and the contract covers the construction of bridges across the waterway for Al Wasl and Jumeirah roads, including a new junction at the crossroads of Al Haddiqa and Al Wasl roads. The canal will link Business Bay and Dubai Creek with the Arabian Gulf when finished via a route that takes it across Sheikh Zayed Road, Safa Park and Jumeirah 2. The scheme was approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister and Ruler of Dubai, last year. It is due to be completed in 2017. The scheme also includes a shopping centre, four hotels and 450 restaurants on the coast. 2013 Arabian Business Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
