PERFORMANCE, NARRATIVE AND CONCEPTUAL BASEDThe three types of music video

PERFORMANCE Performance based videos focus on the band and use lots

of close ups to spread the image of the band, it is often chosen by the musicians publishers because it is cheap and advertises the band more than any other video type.

A large number and variety of shots have to be used to keep the video interesting and keep viewers watching

Performance based videos are very common amongst boy bands because of the demand from female teenagers.

Camera tricks are often used instead of editing to keep the video simplistic. Magic!: rude

NARRATIVE Narrative based videos show a deep storyline in just a

small amount of time, and the music video is sometimes extended above and beyond the length of the track for extensive storylines.

The visual style of a narrative video is not usually as stunning of that from a conceptual video, because the video is based on telling a story not creating a good scene.

Narrative videos often relate to the lyrics of the track that they are presenting, and sometimes give a different view or meaning to the lyrics.

Narrative and conceptual videos are often more money and time intensive compared to performance or just conceptual.

CONCEPTUAL

Conceptual based videos focus mostly on the visuals of the video and not on the story or the band, they rely on a beautiful or interesting scene or sometimes a strange style of filming

Conceptual videos are harder to create than performance and sometimes narrative videos, and often don’t have much of a storyline

Visual effects and a high amount of editing are used in conceptual videos to create an unreal or unusual stage

Sometimes the lyrics of the track are hinted at or taken too literally to create a different style to most music videos
