Instruction forinstalling the
VirtualBox and VagrantFor Mac OS X
Introduction
This tutorial will show you how to install VirtualBox and Vagrant, which will allow you to use virtual machines for
data science
Hardware and Software requirements
You should use a machine with the following minimum hardware requirements:
➔ 3.5 GB free disk space
➔ 2.5 GB (4+ GB preferred)
➔ Any recent Intel or AMD multicore processor should be sufficient.
We support the 64-bit (preferred) Mac OS X 10.9.5 or later
First step: Installing the VirtualBox
➔ Download VirtualBox 5.0 for OS X host here https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
➔ Open up My Downloads. Double click to VirtualBox 4.3.28.
➔ In the open window double click on the first icon (VirtualBox.pkg).
Then click Continue - Continue - Install. Authorize the install.
➔ This make take a little bit. When the installation was successful click Close.
➔ Go to the Applications folder. Double click the VirtualBox icon. And this is VirtualBox.
Second step: Installing Vagrant
➔ Go to the page https://www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html
➔ Choose Mac OS X Universal (32 and 64-bit) and download vagrant_1.7.4 file.
➔ Open My Downloads. Double-click to vagrant.1.7.4.dmg file.
➔ Double-click on vagrant.pkg icon. Click continue and Install. Put in your credentials.
➔ Wait a little bit.
➔ Vagrant is installed.
Installation and usage of virtual machines
If all above steps run successfully,
you are ready to install and use the virtual machine.
