MODERNIZATION OF THE NSOs• For official statistics, the Data Revolution implies a fundamental
transformation regarding the role that they play in society and the economy.• The 2030 Agenda and the monitoring of the 17 SDGs is the most important
challenge that we have faced as a community.• The NSOs require a transformation from the traditional circus to Cirque du
Soleil type in order to remain relevant.

• The NSS (SNIEG) Vision was updated and framed around 5 Strategic Objectives.
• It emphasizes that is necessary to develop and expand the human, technical, technological and organizational capacities.
• Also, is necessary to meet the new information needs of decision-makers in an integrated manner.

Develop capacities for the new
data ecosystem
Promote the strengthening of technical and technological capacities in statistics and geography
Establish strategic alliances with the academic, private and international sectors to promote knowledge sources, information sources and talent development
Innovate in methods and techniques of non-conventional analysis for the use of information from different sources

EXAMPLE OF CAPACITY BUILDING• The Digital Map of Mexico, developed
by INEGI, is a system for consultation and analysis of the geographic and statistical information generated by INEGI.
• On a regular basis, we train users from different sectors - public, private, academic - in the use and exploitation of this tool.

• The Digital Map of Mexico offers more than 200 vector data layers, more than 71 million geographic objects and 4 raster layers, such as:– Geographical limits.
– Hydraulic infrastructure.
– Terrain.
– Land transportation.
– Economic establishments.
– Housing dwelling.
– Environmental information.
– Satellite images.

• INEGI coordinates the Capacity Building Phase of UN-GGIM´s Project for Strengthening Spatial Data Infrastructures in Member States and Territories of the Association of Caribbean States.
• This Capacity Building Program is of the upmost importance so the region is not left behind.

• Integrating Geographic Information Systems as everyday tools for the statistical community.
• Positioning the Digital Map of Mexico as a standard and a basic tool in informed public policy decision-making.
• Becoming a talent-hub for the development of human and technical capacities, that allow us to be better prepared to face the challenges presented by the new data ecosystem.
