What is your age?

What is your age? • This question was asked to ensure that, answers from people outside

the target audience could be separated, from those who were.• Fortunately, all of the responses came from within the target

audience and the majority are under 17, which is where the main focus lies.

In the past 6 months, which of the following genres of film have you watched?

• I put this question in the survey, to see how popular the genre of my film is, with the target audience.• I am doing an independent comedy, which is suitable, when looking at

the results. Over half of those who answered had watched at least one independent film in the last 6 months and around 85% said they had seen a comedy.• The most popular genre, action, can also be found in my film, as many

of the shots are dynamic and almost acrobatic.

What do you look for in the title sequence of a film?

• This was important to include in the survey. From it I can draw aspects of a title sequence that people enjoy watching and therefore what to focus on when making my own.

• The most amount of people thought that a title sequence had to be immediately engaging. In my film, I engage the audience by not revealing much about the actual story of the film but simply showing entertaining shots that a very relevant.

• This also links to the second most popular choice, of “exciting and pleasing visuals”, which is my main focus for the film. I will be meticulously considering the framing, shot type, lighting and mise en scene of every second of the movie.

• Very few people thought that a title sequence had to establish the story of the rest of the film. This is good to know, as the sequence I have planned has little relation to the actual story but rather the topic the story is based on.

What's your favourite sub-genre of independent film?

What's your favourite sub-genre of independent film?

• The responses to this question only give me more confidence in the decisions I have made about the film and its genre. The largest number of responders said that comedy is their favourite subgenre of independent film.• As I am doing an independent comedy, I will not need to change the genre

of my film to suit the target audience.• It is also interesting to note that independent action movies are not very

popular at all. This contrasts with the popularity of normal action movies and how many, people watch, every 6 months. This is probably because action is more expensive than dialogue and intricate storyline and so the creators of independent films don’t have the budget for it.

What is your favourite independent movie? • I asked this, to see if there were any trends in the movies, people said

were their favourite.• “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” was a very popular choice among

other suggestions such as “Little Miss Sunshine”, “Submarine” and “Beasts of the Southern Wild”. This is interesting as all of these films fit the brief I have chosen: “An independent film with a young protagonist”. This tells me that it is a well received idea for a film.
