BACKGROUND

WhatsApp is an instant

messaging app for smartphones that

operates under a subscription

business model.

The proprietary, cross-platform app

uses the Internet to send text

messages, images, video, user

location and audio media messages.

In January 2015, WhatsApp was

the most globally popular messaging

app with more than 700 million

active users.

BACKGROUND

WhatsApp software automatically compares all the phone

numbers from the device's address book with its central database

of WhatsApp users to automatically add contacts to the user's

WhatsApp contact list. Previously the Android and S40 versions

used an MD5-hashed, reversed-version of the phone's IMEI as

password, while the iOS version used the phone's Wi-Fi MAC

address instead of IMEI. A 2012 update now generates a random

password on the server side.

BACKGROUND

WhatsApp is supported on most,

BlackBerry, iPhone, and Nokia smartphones.

All Android phones running the Android 2.1

and above, all BlackBerry devices running

OS 4.7 and later, including BlackBerry 10,

and all iPhones running iOS 4.3 and later.

However, some Dual SIM devices may not

be compatible with WhatsApp, though there

are some workarounds for this.

Only 4 people revealed that they don’t use Whatsapp in their daily life. Around 87% people use Whatsapp in the research, it showed that Whatsapp is the popular application nowadays.

7 people rate 5 marks ( the full marks is 5) that

they would often use Whatsapp, 13 people rate 4

marks and 6 people rates 3 marks, nobody rate 1 and

2 marks, which showed that Whatsapp is a good

application for the users since the high frequency of

using it.

Text is a function that most people are using, there

are 26 people in our research. Photography and

video are the second, 19 people said that they would

use it. For the other functions like group messages,

contact sharing and audio, which have a fewer

attraction for the users. The figures show that

people would like to use Whatsapp to replace the

messages function on their phone, the extra

functions still are not popular as the original

functions right now.

their friends, nearly 84%, only few people use it for

business discussion and news share. Whatsapp is a

leisured application rather than a business machine

of the main reason that why they use Whatsapp. 9

people (nearly 33%) also think that Whatsapp has an

user-friendly interface,various functions and

different symbols (emoji) which can attract them to

use. To conclude, the design of Whatsapp is user-

friendly, also a main reason of the success of

Whatsapp.

55% people don’t care about a monitoring function

of Whatsapp like read recipe and last seen. It reveals

that some people don’t care although they are likely

to be ‘watched’ by another. In other words, they

don’t mind if they get a fewer freedom.

19 people (70%) people set their privacy setting to

their friends or even everyone. Only 8 people hide

their setting, which means nobody can see their

privacy information. The result is same with the

question 9 that more people don’t care they would

get a fewer freedom. Or the private setting is in a

new version so that users don’t know the private

information can be hided.

CONCLUSION

Advantages:

You can easily send free messages to any part of the world without any charges.

This service is completely free.

All tools provided by Whatsapp are very easy to use.

It do not have any advertisements on display screen.

This app automatically imports the contacts from your phone and tells you that how

many of your friends are using Whatsapp.

You can share your location, photos, status with your friends.

You need not spend any money for chatting and sharing with your friends.

It also allows you to send 100 messages a month to any of your friends not using

Whatsapp for free.

CONCLUSION

Disadvantages:

You can chat to friends that only have smart phones supporting this

application and to friends having their account on Whatsapp. You can just

send 100 messages in a month to friends not having Whatsapp on their phone.

You must have access to internet to send and receive messages for free and

the messages are also not sent to the phone inbox.

You need to pay $0.99 for renewal after every year.

You cannot call using this app to your friends for free.

and using this app, whether known by you or not.
