INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE Conceived as a “University of Research” by Jamsetji

Nusserwanji Tata with inspiration from Swami Vivekananda and land granted by the Mysuru Maharajas

Founded on May 27, 1909 Possibly the best S&T Institute in the country Once home to several nation builder scientists and

engineers such as Professors C V Raman, Homi Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan, C N R Rao etc.

Currently the Institute has 41 departments & centres 418 UG, 636 PG and 2487 Doctoral Students 422 faculty members, 90 scientific staff and about 600

support stuff2

DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

Started as Section of Economics and Social Sciencein 1947

Evolved into Department of Industrial Management in 1967

Finally became Department of Management Studies (DoMS) in 1985

Currently we offer M.Mgt. and Ph.D. degrees 30 M.Mgt. and 49 Ph.D. students 11 faculty members, 2 administrative and 4 support staff

MAJOR RESEARCH AREASResearch interests of DoMS cover a wide range such as:

Bayesian Statistics, Machine Learning Operations Research and Supply Chain Management Demand and Revenue Management of Scarce Resources Industrial Economics Energy & Environmental Economics and Policy Public Policy HRM, OB, R&D and Technology Management Strategic Management and Marketing Project Management and Entrepreneurship Patent Commercialization Strategies and Patent Pricing

PG Programs at DoMS, IISc

Started with a 3 year evening executive program called D-IISc in 1958, which continued till 1965

D-IISc was then run as a one-year full-time program till 1984 Evolved into one and half year (full-time) M.Tech. in

Management Studies in 1985 From 2000 to 2009 DoMS offered two-year (full-time) MBA Launched the current two-year (full-time) M.Mgt. in 2011

with Business Analytics as one of its two specializations (Technology Management being the other one)
