Sales Associate Interview - I applied online and the process took a day -

interviewed at Home Depot in February 2014.

Interview Details – Interview Process went as normal, First interview was with

Assist store Manager. He asked behavior type questions to see if I was a good fit.

Questions such as "If you’re helping a customer and another customer comes up

and ask you a question, there are no other sales associates around, what would u

do". After 6 of those types of questions I was brought in to interview with the

store manager. He also asked some of the same types and went over my resume.

Interview Question – Most difficult question was what is your weakness? Be

prepared to answer this one with thought in advance

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Warehouse Associate Interview - I applied online, the process took 2 days

Interview Details – it was pretty easy going and laid back not to hard of an

interviewing process

Interview Question –

What was a time you had to overcome a project you couldn't work out?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cashier Interview - The process took 2 days - interviewed at Home Depot.

Interview Details – Phone Interview, called the next day for in-person interview,

hired on the spot.

Questions like:

Why Home Depot?

Definition of great customer service?

Give an example of a time that I had to complete a task in a tight time

frame and the turnout.

Interview Question –

Give an example of a time that I had to complete a task in a tight time

frame?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cashier Interview - I applied online and interviewed at Home Depot.

Interview Details – One interview was very positive. I was promised between 20

and 30 hours a week. Then I was hired at the end of the interview based on

passing of a drug screen and background check.

Negotiation Details – Find out how long it will take for the background check to

be done. Mine took 2 months before I heard anything. I figured I didn’t have a job

there anymore.

Page 8: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

Cashier Interview - I applied online and the process took 2 weeks

Interview Details – I received an email saying I would be receiving a phone call for

a brief phone interview. I was expecting maybe the next day or so but I actually

got the call within an hour or so. It is automated at first and asks if it was not a

good time. If you are busy take say you want them to call back because I just this

time was fine when I was walking around with friends no thinking it would be as

long and in depth as it was described. They ask you a series of questions along the

lines of describe a situation when... You want to make sure you speak slowly

because the person on the phone is typing it all while you're talking to them so

you want to make sure they don't miss anything. They then schedule you a in-

store interview. The job title they interviewed me for in person was different than

what they told me on the phone, but it didn't matter to me. You go into a back

office with one of the managers and they ask you pretty much the exact same

questions the person on the phone did. The standard what would you do in this

situation, what are your strengths and weaknesses. The in store interview was

only about 15-20 min and the phone was maybe 30 min because of all the

automated stuff before you got the real person.

Interview Question –

They ask you a question along the lines of when did you mess up or do

something wrong and what would you do differently now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cashier Interview - I applied online and the process took 4 months

Interview Details – I submitted my app online and was called for a phone

interview 3 months later. I was interviewed by 1 assistant store manager and then

called 2 weeks later for a second interview. The qualifications that Home Depot is

looking at are your ability to handle interaction with the public as they shop in the

store and cash out. There were a number of questions requiring you to tell how

you would handle different and perhaps difficult situations involving the

customer. How would you handle a complaint and what actions would you take to

satisfy the customer. Customer service is the 1st priority at The Home Depot.

Interview Question –

What have you done that has gone above and beyond in your employment

history?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Page 9: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

Cashier Interview - I applied online

Interview Details – If your application is flagged for possible work, you get an

automated phone call and answer a few questions. If the automated questions

are answered correctly, you are then connected to a person at a call center. They

will ask you questions more pertinent to the specific position they are considering

you for. If you then answer those questions correctly, they will tell you what they

are considering you for, what the probable pay is, and what the probable hours

are. They will then tell you that a specific store (gives name) will be contacting

you. You are contacted by management at that store. They will conduct a

preliminary interview. They will read questions from a page, and write your

answers down. They are not allowed to deviate from those questions. The

Assistant Managers and the Store Manger will meet over the applications and

then decide on who they want to hire. If they are 100% on hiring you, they will

call you back one more time to offer you the job and have you come in to get your

drug screen paperwork.

Interview Question –

What is a time you went above and beyond to provide exceptional service?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cashier Interview - I applied online and the process took 6 days.

Interview Details – Fill out an online application. Later I got an email telling me

that Home depot was going to contact me for a phone interview. Then they called

a day later asked basic questions such as am I still interested? Can I work in a

place that might have dust from the lumber? Then I went in for a 1st interview

then a 2nd one and took a drug test.

Interview Question –

"How would you provide good customer service with questions?"

USED JOB SHACK INSIDER: This is a complicated process of having to

do an online application before you get to look at actual openings. It might be better to first contact the store to see what positions are open and to do a little face-to-face networking to jumpstart this process. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer

Interview Details – I applied online. After two days I called in to inform them that

I applied online. They took my name and number down and said they would call

me the next day. I waited the next day; no call. Four days later, I got a voice mail

asking if they could interview me. I called them and told them that I had school

Page 12: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

during those hours and we rescheduled. When I came to the store for my

interview, the manager was out on lunch. I waited about 10 minutes before she

came back. While I was waiting I had a conversation with one of the workers. She

said she likes working at payless. After 10 minutes the manager took me to the

back and told me a lot about herself. She seemed really nice. She then proceeded

with asking me question that was pre-printed for her. She told me that she has

interviewed a number of people and she hoped I was the one. She told me she

would call me if I was hired or not. After 2 weeks, she called me asking if I can

take a drug test. I told her I would. She then told me that she would call me the

next day to tell me where to take my drug test. The next day she didn’t call.

Weeks later she called provided the information. I passed the test and 5 days later

she called me for training.

INTERVIEW QUESTION –

What is the biggest mistake you have made in your previous job?

How did you handle it?

Negotiation Details – The most negotiating we did was about working on

Sundays. She said that if I were to get hired, I would need to work at least one

Sunday a month. I agreed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer

Interview Details – Filled out an application online: it was very confusing and time

consuming. I received a phone call for an interview about 1 month later. The

interview was very straight forward... Be prepared to go through a selling role-

play

Interview Question –

Have to be very specific..."Tell me about a time when..."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Retail Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer

Interview Details – - Hiring Process took about a week. The interview was great I

felt really comfortable with the manager and she was very polite. Also, majority of

the people that worked there spoke Spanish and knowing that I only spoke

English was great for the store.

Interview Question – Role Play: It's the BOGO sale (Buy One Get One

50% off) you have to sell 2 pairs and the customer is only interested in buying 1

Page 13: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

pair for her daughters communion. What would you do to try and make the

customer to buy 2 pairs??

Negotiation Details – I didn't negotiate but eventually when you work there long

enough and the manager realizes your improvements you'll get a raise.

This is in your neighborhood, Go Old School on them. Do your homework, dress in non-jeans and a polo shirt (if you have, if you don't...never mind still go - after you get the job you can buy better clothes). Impress them with how much you want to work there. Show up in the early AM or between 2-4PM to introduce yourself. Introduce yourself to anyone in the management team and write down their name. ASK IF YOU COULD TALK TO A MANAGER ABOUT "UPCOMING OPENINGS." See that we said "UPCOMING OPENINGS" instead of "are you hiring?" Do you know why? The reason is that a sales clerk wouldn't know that and you can NOT be shut down with a "NO" has this question requires a manager - and if they are available (early AM or mid-afternoon they usually are) you are talking directly to one of the people who can hire you on the spot. Think about that, talking to someone who (if they are impressed) hire you on the spot and you are talking directly to them. WOW! This cuts out all of the middle steps and the days of waiting by the phone. They will tell you to apply online. Write the names of the person(s) who you talk to as you will need that later. Go home and use Rule Number Four to make a killer application, transfer that info into your resume so you have a killer resume for the job(s) you talked to the manager about.

Page 18: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

Call them back and let them know you completed the task and (without pause or taking a breath) ask them if they could please pull your application and (again...without pause or taking a breath) ask them when you can come see them. The History of Subway The Seventeen-Year-Old Entrepreneur Back in 1965, Fred DeLuca set out to fulfill his dream of becoming a medical doctor. Searching for a way to help pay for his education, a family friend suggested he open a submarine sandwich shop. With a loan of $1,000, the friend—Dr. Peter Buck—offered to become Fred’s partner, and a business relationship was forged that would change the landscape of the fast food industry. The first store was opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut in August, 1965. Then, they set a goal of having 32 stores opened in 10 years. Fred soon learned the basics of running a business, as well as the importance of serving a well-made, high quality product, providing excellent customer service, keeping operating costs low and finding great locations. ===========================================================

USED JOB SHACK INSIDER:

SALES FLOOR TEAM MEMBER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER Interview Details –Applied online and got a call a few weeks later to set up a phone interview. Phone interview was simple questions like:

Why Target?

Tell me about yourself.

Tell me a time when you had to work in a team.

Tell me a time when you had to meet a short deadline.

Tell me a time when you helped someone else. After the phone interview I was called fifteen minutes later to set up an in-person interview. Arrived fifteen minutes early for the interview and was taken to the break room. I was shown a short video that stressed that customers are "guests" and employees are "team members." The interview itself was very short. I was asked:

Why Target?

Tell me a time when you made a mistake and what you did to correct it.

A woman is looking for a shoe for her son, but the proper size is not on the shelf, what would you do?

You're ringing up a customer and an item rings up at $19.99 but the customer swears the price was $15.99, what would you do? Once that was done I was shown to the break room once again, waited for 5 minutes and was offered a job (conditional to me passing a drug test). My interview was scheduled for 10am and I was offered a job by 10:30am. Interview Questions

FLOW TEAM MEMBER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER

Interview Details –I filled out an application online and was contacted 2 days later to schedule an interview at the store. My availability was confirmed over the

Page 26: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

phone, but that was all I was asked... I never had an actual phone interview. My interview was scheduled for a Wednesday, exactly one week after I had turned in my application. They set me up at one of the job kiosks to do an assessment. The assessment consisted of some scenario based questions asking how I would react in certain situations, as well as a few questions to test my skills for basic math. It was very easy. I was first interviewed by a team leader. He asked me some general questions about myself as well as some questions about situations I'd been in and how I had handled them. The questions were fairly simple, but you will be asked to provide specific examples, and they are looking for details! He then set me up to watch a video about Target that was several minutes long. You'll need to pay attention because the next person you interview with will ask questions that relate to the video. Next, I was interviewed by an individual who had more authority than the team leader. He asked me 1 or two more situation questions (basically the same thing the team leader had covered but worded differently) and several questions about my personality and experience. He asked if I had any questions. I asked if he could tell me more about the machines that are used in the backroom of the store and he then took me back to show me what the back room was like and how things functioned. He then told me that if everything sounded good to me then he'd like to offer me the position. He led me to an HR person who explained that I needed to take a drug test within 24 hours and that It would take about a week. She said they would be contacting me for orientation once they got the results. Interview Questions

The questions were all fairly easy. Overall, you want to show them that you can work as part of a team and that you have experience doing so as they are very big on time efficiency and team work. Also, have experiences/stories in mind to share! The questions on here WILL help you prepare. They ask everyone the same questions off of a sheet of paper.

Why do you want to work at target? Tell me about a time when you worked on a team what was the outcome &

what did you learn? Tell about a time you had to lead others and how you executed your

leading? View Answer If a customer was searching for a pair of shoes for her three year old and

couldn’t find them what would you do? Name a time you exceeded a supervisors expectations, Name a time you

made a mistake. Negotiation Details –There wasn’t a negotiation. The first person I interviewed with asked me what my expectations for pay were. I said around $8.00 or so an hour knowing that they start you around there. He said “good” because they usually start people $8-$8.50 an hour. The second person I interviewed with

Page 27: VIRTUAL WALK-A-BOUT…JOB HUNTING AT ARCADIA CROSSING – 44th Street-Thomas Rd

offered me $8.50 an hour and that was it. There is also a $1 shift difference pay as I will be coming in at 4am. The shift difference pay lasts from 4am until 8am, at which time the pay will drop back down to $8.50 an hour. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CASHIER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER

Interview Details –Applied online within a week got called in for an interview. Met with a GM who asked basic questions. Tell us a time when you were working with someone difficult and how you handled it. With these questions they are looking for a problem a solution and then the outcome. Be detailed. They score you on each answer. They are always looking for Starbucks workers so if you say you are willing to train in that area or have experience then you'll most likely get it. Interview Question –No unexpected questions Negotiation Details –They do not negotiate in my area Starbucks workers in the target get $9.50 and the cashiers get $8.75 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interview Details – I went to a career fair hosted at the department of labor in my county. I had two interviews. It seemed you had to do well in the first interview to get to the second one. I don't remember what the second interviewer asked but I do remember my answers: that I wanted to grow with the company and that I would be willing to do any job no matter how small or outside my job description it seemed.

Interview Question – He asked me about some health issues I had mentioned because I needed every Tuesday off to see a health care provider.
