You control the moment. Rather than cautiously test the water, dive straight into life with abandon. Imagine the person you want to be and the life you want to live, then commit to them. And whatever you do, wherever you go, don't be afraid to make a splash. LaVerne Rayford

Here's the BEST advice I received from my Mom: Own your life. Do not worry about the things you can’t change. The outcome: I learned to take care of myself. I mastered the art of moving on. I use my past to set goals for my future. I keep getting better and better.

It's OK to be human. I made a HUGE mistake at a job and instead of yelling (or firing me!) my boss asked, "Did you learn anything?" The "unspoken" advice was don't beat yourself up for not being "perfect." Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back in the ring with your new perspective!

When you are presented with a choice: major, minor or in-between — where to live, what color to paint your place, which job to take — the best advice I've gotten is to choose. Just choose one or the other, because whichever you choose, it will work out. And it has.Pamela Koller

"What you feed will grow." So now I am careful to give my attention to what I want to get more of, not less of!

Within the classroom as well as in everyday settings, I remind my fellow nurses to listen to that voice in their head. Too many times, we dismiss that feeling we get if a situation gives us pause. We need to empower each other to know we are strong and intelligent individuals who are creating a strong vision for the future.

"Don't burn the candle at both ends. But pick one end and burn the hell out of it." This was from a former boss who saw me coming in early and staying late every day. She was right; it's important to keep a sustainable pace.  Elinor Buxton Sl

When I was younger, a boss told me, "You can't be everything to everybody" when he saw I was trying to be the perfect wife, mother, supervisor. It made me take a second look at what I was doing to myself, and see that some things are okay to let go of. Someone else WILL take care of it.
