After working on my own for half a year, I am now keen to join a company where I can put my creative skills to use, and work again in a social environment. My previous 15 years of employment were with HMV, and I spent the final two of those managing stores of my own (Moorgate, High Wycombe and floor manager of the flagship store on Oxford Street). I’m a self proclaimed lover of music and film and the work I create is inspired by these things. It was for this reason I loved being part of HMV for so long. However, I decided after reaching my 15th anniversary with the company in March last year, that the time was right to concentrate on ‘whythelongplayface?’ full time. During the past twelve months, I have built up a portfolio of work, and have been commissioned by Empire and Classic Rock Magazine. I’m a graphic/digital artist and work under my alias ‘whythelongplayface?’ I have spent the last six months setting up my own business through my website, selling prints, T shirts and taking commissions. After working on my own for half a year, I am now keen to join

a company where I can put my creative skills to use, and work again in a social environment.

My previous 15 years of employment were with HMV, and I spent the final two of those managing stores of my own (Moorgate, High Wycombe and floor manager of the flagship store

on Oxford Street). I’m a self proclaimed lover of music and film and the work I create is inspired by these things. It was for this reason I loved being part of HMV for so long. However, I decided

after reaching my 15th anniversary with the company in March last year, that the time was right to concentrate on ‘whythelongplayface?’ full time.

During the past twelve months, I have built up a portfolio of work, and have been commissioned by Empire and Classic Rock Magazine. I have also had my work featured on numerous

websites, some of which include the NME, Nerdist, Slashfilm, The Observer, Huffington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and many others

Career History

cv AUGUST 2016 - PRESENT SELF EMPLOYED ‘WHYTHELONGPLAYFACE?’

AUGUST 2015 - AUGUST 2016 STORE MANAGER HMV HIGH WYCOMBEAPRIL 2015 - AUGUST 2015FLOOR MANAGER HMV OXFORD STREET, LONDONSEPTEMBER 2014 - APRIL 2015STORE MANAGER HMV MOORGATE, LONDON

Since my first post on instagram in March 2015, I have gained a unique reputation for blending iconic album covers with pop culture images. I create and produce art using predominantly photoshop and illustrator, that I then translate from computer screen to digital print, T shirt and social media post. The majority of my commissions have consisted of creating ‘one off’ pieces of art for people who want their own images integrated into famous album covers or movie posters.

Almost two years on, I have cultivated a large following on social media across various platforms, particularly on instagram where currently over 21k like minded followers continue to enjoy and inspire my work.

Day to day, I organise the logistics of my web store; adding new products as I develop and create them, correspond with customers and post and pack my items by hand. My T shirts are currently produced and supplied by Red Bubble, and my designs are updated on a regular basis. On occasions, I release ‘limited edition’ T shirt designs, which I advertise to all my followers on social media for a short period of time.

I can also be found selling my work at design and record fairs across London, where I relish the opportunity to meet my customers face to face.

AUGUST 2016 - PRESENT SELF EMPLOYED ‘WHYTHELONGPLAYFACE?’

OCT 2005 - AUGUST 2015 ASSISTANT MANAGER HMV WALSALL, ISLINGTON, MOORGATEOCT 2003 - OCT 2005 TEAM LEADER HMV WALSALL, MERRY HILL, DECEMBER 2001 - OCT 2003DVD BUYER BIRMINGHAM PALASADES, BIRMINGHAM HIGH STREETSALES ASSISTANT HMV BIRMINGHAM HIGH ST, WOLVERHAMPTON. I have had other positions within HMV in my long career, beginning as a Christmas temp in 2001. Along the way I accumulated a lot of transferrable skills such as cash handling, customer service, and upselling on various products.

In my role as manager, I was required to have a good understanding of the financial aspects of the company such as profits and loss, organising budgets for staff employment, maximising store performance through use of company information including KPIs , best sellers and daily financial reports. I was adept in Loss Prevention and Cash Office procedures which gave me a full understanding of how to minimise the company’s financial costs.

I have dealt with HR issues that occurred, such as staff absence, lateness and sickness. I have conducted personal development reviews, helping to promote and develop my staff to the next stage of their careers. I would motivate them to perform to the best of their abilities, and identify ways that they could improve through team meetings and one on one coaching. I was extremely pro active in promoting the company through social media and in encouraging customer feedback, of which my stores always had consistently high results.

I have always considered myself to be very ‘hands on’ in the way I conduct myself. When colleagues have described my work ethic, the word that is consistently used for me is ‘grafter’. I am reliable, honest and quick to respond and action tasks as soon as they are given. I believe this is a work ethic that I have always passed onto my staff.

My extensive film knowledge was quickly identified whilst working in Birmingham, and I was promoted to video and DVD buyer quite rapidly. Responsible for the stock purchasing and management of visual entertainment at the largest HMV in the Midlands, I was liaising daily with suppliers based in the UK, building positive business relationships and responding quickly to commercial demand to maximise sales.
