ABOUT START UP VILLAGE

Startup Village is a not-for-profit business incubator based in Kochi, Kerala. •

Started in April 2012, the organization’s aim is to launch many technology

startups and start the search for the next billion-dollar Indian company

In January 2013, Startup Village and the Kerala government launched an

initiative called SVSquare. Every year, we select promising young

entrepreneurs from India and send them on an all-expense paid trip to the

U.S. Our aim is to expose our youngsters to the legendary startup

environment in Silicon Valley

The idea of Startup Village was conceived in 2008 by Sanjay Vijayakumar and

his team (the group also founded MobMe, a start-up in Kerala), students in the

College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. "When we started, we had

informed the DST we would incubate 48 companies in five years.

• It is India’s first incubator that is funded jointly by the public and private

sector.

• As of October 2013, Startup Village has incubated 450 startups.

The promoters of Startup Village are Department of Science and

Technology, Government of India, Technopark, Trivandrum and Mob ME

Wireless. Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys and an IT entrepreneur

from Kerala, is the chief mentor at Startup Village.

• Startup Village provides members with workspace, high-speed Internet

connection, legal and intellectual property services and access to investors

Fin is a wearable device hardware product which looks like a ring and it can be fitted into the

thumb. There is a bulged portion to accommodate touch sensor inside it. These sensors detect

taps, swipes and identify various parts of your palm by calculating the distance moved by the

thumb.

Microwave android integrated device

•MAID is the world’s first Android powered microwave oven. The device holds unlimited number

of Internet recipes in the cloud that can be downloaded into the microwave

Tax Exemption Companies in incubators recognised by the The National

Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board of the

Department of Science and Technology are eligible for service tax exemption

for 3 years and up to 50 lakh of revenue.

Consulting Service by KPMG We provide initial tax support services to

startups. Free advice is provided from an Indian tax and regulatory

perspective

Hosting support by Amazon Web Services Startup bootcamp launched 2014-01-

proposes to set up Startup Boot camps in all its educational institutions
