DESCRIPTION

The professional social networks LinkedIn and Xing offer a variety of tools and services to advance your professional career. Wisely used, both can help with establishing and building up on your professional network, be inspired by business experts globally and connect with people you would otherwise be very unlikely to get in touch with. During the 2,5-hour seminar I will present core features of both LinkedIn and Xing. I will give guidance as to how best to fill-in the personal profile in both platforms and how to grow the number of business contacts in a fruitful manner. Initially, we will look at the basics of the personal profile: What type of photo should I chose as my profile picture? How should I fill-in my curriculum? What kind of other information should I add and where/how? Both platforms have overlapping and also distinct categories and features, such as Projects, Contact establishing tools, Groups, Events, Company Profiles, Recruiting, News Feed and Premium Features. I will briefly present these and go into details with features that are crucial for building connections and for job recruitment.

Reputation Management IV

• Don’t try to delete any of your social media networking accounts; colleges and employers may see this as you deliberately obscuring yourself

• Be mindful of online scams and phony friend requests. Never include your phone number, mailing address or home address in your profile.
