This poster contains negative

photography, showing a surf board

being buried. This suggests that

their will be no more surfing unless

the problem is fixed. The

photograph is low in contrast and

doesn’t contain much colour which

shows it is serious, emotive,

unpleasant and has no life.

The logo does not contain any

colour and is very small, this also

suggests that this isn’t the most

important thing on the poster.

The surf board is the main thing

that catches your eye which is

what the intension of the poster

is.

The text is small but contains

capital letters, showing it’s

seriousness of the subject. It is not

large because it wants the reader to

focus onto what the writing says

and also doesn’t want to take your

eye of the photograph. They have

made the writing look as if it is a

memory against the surfboard with

the dates of life below it, this makes

it look clever because it actually

shows someone that it will be the

end if the problem doesn’t change.

The purposes of this campaign

are:

•To raise awareness- not a lot of

people across the country know

about the problem, especially

when they live far away from the

coast. This is to make people

aware and show them how

serious it is.

•To change attitudes – It should

change how people think about

the coast and also treat it, they

will think twice before littering In

or near the sea after seeing this

poster.

•To bring about local, national or

global change – after raising

awareness of the subject it will be

good for more rules and jobs for

cleaning the beach before the tide

comes out etc.

•To create and strengthen

community ties – it may bring

together communities together to

help the subject.

•To provide information- the link at

the bottom of the page will allow

you to learn more and also sign

the petition to help the change

commence.

•To campaign

•To build relationships with

subjects – this might mean

nothing to some people but after

seeing the negative photography

it may change how people think

The font is formal, which also connotes that it is

a serious campaign. It also fits in with the look

of a memorial for the surf board because this is

the font you would use for that.

The intended audience would be

both male and female from the age

of 17+ because over this age

someone would most likely read the

poster and act upon it.

This photograph is negative

implementing that the surf boards are

grave stones for the death of the

waves. The photograph again is low

contrast and doesn’t show a lot of

colour, showing the seriousness of the

poster and also showing it has no life.

Across most of the SAS posters they

all contain negative photography with

low saturation and contrast.

The text is in the same font in capital

letters. To show that it is important and

also formal because it is talking out to

adults. It is a rhetorical question which

makes you think about it and the

subject.

The purposes:

•To bring about local, national

or global change

•To change attitudes

•To raise awareness

•To create or strengthen

community ties

•To provide information

•To campaign

•To build relationships with

subjects

As you can see In the photograph

the ocean doesn’t look inviting, it

looks mucky and their isn’t a lot of

movement in it. The surf boards

are covered in sewage and are

acting like grave stones. It is a

very negative photograph but is

clever because It has turned a

subject that is only cared about a

lot by surfers into something that

a lot of people will look at and

think more about it and are likely

to see the logo and want to

research more. It is a clever

campaign that will gain a lot of

income.

Merchandise T-shirts and hoodies attract all kinds of audiences

because they are popular, especially when the

money is going towards a good cause and it is

spreading the awareness.

The type In the green t-shirt is very creative, which

makes the t-shirt look interesting because it is not to

simple. It says that they’re the ones making the

waves, which suggests that the work they have done

so far is making a difference.

Page 5: Product research task 3

•The mug is colourfull ‘life is a wave, enjoy it’

which suggests that waves are very

enjoyable and without them life won’t be the

same. the colour in the text suggests that it

is positive, fun and creative. On the back of

the mug it has the logo on so that it is always

remembered and easily recognised.

•The SAS sell guidebooks that are also very

bright and colourfull showing healthy waves

and what they should look like.

• Selling merchandise can attract different

audiences because they sell many different

accessorizes and gifts which all go to a good

cause.

•The typography is simple but very effective

in this surfing guidebook, its creative which

would attract the surfers. It is a negative

space of a guy holding a surfboard in the

actual text.

•The merchandise are unlike the posters and

are very bright, colourfull and positive. This

suggests that the organisation brings about

positives but the subject itself is negative.

•They also sell merchandise for surfers

themselves because that is the organisations

target audience.

Logo

The SAS logo is simple and contains

bright colour. The light and dark blue

work well together to suggests that the

sea is going from a light healthy blue to

dark and full of sewage. The graphic in

the logo looks like an eye and also a

wave which could suggests that you

need to look to see the problem. It is a

formal and well recognised logo, if you

saw it without the title/headline

somewhere you would immediately

know what it was for. The marine conservation logo contains a graphic

of a dolphin in blue and a graphic of a human in

a mustard colour. The blue shows the ocean

colour with the dolphin which lives there and the

mustard could connote the land with a human.

The logo immediately suggests that it is an

organisation that is trying to save the ocean from

harm for the animals in this case. This logo is

creative with the human and dolphin in the same

movement. The text is simple for this logo which

makes it easy and clear to read and easily

recognised.
