Presidential Management Fellows Program

The purpose of the Program is to attract to the Federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs

Eligibility

• U.S. Citizen, eligible to work in the U.S., or eligible for and pursuing U.S. citizenship

• Meet all graduate degree requirements between 9/1/2010 and 8/31/2011

• Demonstrate– Breadth and quality of accomplishments– Capacity for leadership– Commitment to excellence in leadership and

management of public policies and programs

• To be entitled to preference, a veteran must meet the eligibility requirements in section 2108 of title 5, United States Code

Indian Preference

• May apply to positions with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Indian Health Service

• Eligible applicants who are members of a Federally recognized tribe

Fellowship

• Two-year paid fellowship includes:– Full-time salary and benefits– Formal classroom training (160 hours)– Mandatory 4-6 month development

assignment– Optional rotations of 1-6 months– Challenging work assignments– Potential for accelerated promotions– Opportunities for networking

Successful Completion

• Agency-approved Individual Development Plan

• Minimum of 80 hours classroom training each year (160 hours total)

• At least 1 Developmental Assignment of 4-6 months in duration

• Performance Plan and Annual Review• Certification of Completion by agency

Friday, October 1, 2010 • Application for the PMF Class of 2011 opens • First day Nomination Officials may fax nominations

Friday, October 15, 2010 • Application for PMF Class of 2011 Closes

Sunday, October 31, 2010

• Deadline for Nomination Officials to fax nominations• Deadline for applicants to submit supporting

documentation

Mid-November 2010• Applicants officially notified of eligibility and nomination

status• Nominees notified of on-line assessment

Mid-December 2010 • Nominees notified of semi-finalist status via email

January/February 2011 • Assessments conducted nationwide for semi-finalists

• Semi-finalist notified of finalist status via email

Success

• Upon appointment the finalists status changes to Presidential Management Fellow (PMF, Fellow)

• Appointments must be made within 12 months of becoming a finalist

• Salary is based on the current General Schedule– GS-9, GS-11, or GS-12, depending on

qualifications– Generally a Step 1 appointment
