Graniteville has historically been a mill town (that is how it was founded) but with the closing of the mill a few years ago, it has an identity crisis. My class was given the task of re-designing the com-munity and meeting the wants of the people. The mill is the center of the town and I took that and the rich history it has into account with my theme of historic preservation. Through town hall meetings and meetings with town officials I came up with a collaborative design that incorporates the history of the town while urbanizing it.

VINE HILL
This project was done during the fall semester of my junior year for Design Implementation II. It is a residential site in Pendleton, SC, just down the road from Clemson University. The main goal of this project was to learn how to properly make construction documents and meeting the needs of the client. It was a group effort and my con-tribution was the planting plan, planting details, and site sections. The difficulties of this project was producing quality construction documents, communicating with a group, and collaborating effec-tively to produce a quality set of designs.

OLD PICKENS
Pickens County was established in 1828 and thus the county seat at this site. In the 1860s the county was split in two and the county seat moved to its present location. The previous site became abandoned and known as Old Pickens. All that remains today is a graveyard and small church. I used this history as the basis of my design. The grid is reflective of the street grid that was present when this site was thriv-ing. The trees lining the grid are mulberry trees which is a historical tree native to the area. I added a parking area and visitors center, which will show the wonderful history of Old Pickens.

OMAN
The Port of Muscat is being moved and leaving a wonderful site to be re-envisioned. Because of the scale of the site it was done in groups. I broke up my area into three areas: a park, a historic sculpture gar-den, and a boardwalk. The park connects the boardwalk with a cruise ship terminal and it imitates the historic fabric of Muscat. The historic sculpture garden displays a few of Muscat’s historic aspects: the Dhow, Khanjar, cannon, and fish. The boardwalk boasts many breathtaking views, has many restaurants, a water taxi that tours Muscat by water, a lighthouse, an English Garden and historic facts lining the sea.

TRIANGLE PARK
Triangle Park is a very small park in downtown Asheville. Aptly named for the form it takes, Triangle Park needed to be redesigned to better suit safety concerns. There was a large retaining wall on two of the three sides that created an area of concealment. The scale of the site and the relatively large grade change were factors of difficulty in this assignment. My solu-tion is a platform leading to gradual stairs that open up to an open area. A couple of stairs open up to another open area in the top corner of the site; I imagine this being the main play area for children. There is a large water feature that interacts with the stairs as well.
