“ You will hear microphone pops, chair creaks, and campfire chords. Flat and sharp notes, no subliminal hooks to enhance chorus value, and hiss from tape. Also tempo changes because there are no click tracks. These are the sounds of musicians making organic music.
This is as raw it gets. I don’t prescribe to “Don’t bore us. Get to the chorus”. I would rather do away with chorus.
I don’t believe either in the constraints of time: I am not looking at the clock when I sing, “I love you”. I’m not thinking of financial gain of radio airplay when I pour my heart out.
I have always made music; it is a way of life for me, not a way out.

My father was over six foot tall, half black (African) half white (Irish). He was born in Wales. His father before him and his grandfather all come from a long lineage of real men.
“Mende Warriors” to be exact. My father wasn’t a hugger, he would shake his hands firmly. He was taught old school, don’t explain and don’t complain.
I wrote “Try” out of my relationship with my father. I remember my mother in a house of all men, she would often say that we took her for granted. I wrote this song from my father’s total point of view. I believe these are the words he would say if he could: “Imagine it’s a bit like Tarzan talking to Jane…”
An animalistic honesty, incapable of bending to political correctness.

I wrote this song many years ago.
Most artists struggle for their art and this was a low point for me. Not in faith but in spirit. They say hope makes a great breakfast but a terrible dinner. I concur.
I was what is known as a “struggling musician”: struggling to pay rent, struggling to pay bills, struggling to eat.
My life has always been about music and this song expresses that fact more than any of the other songs.This song is the realization of the dream.

If you believe that people are mirrors then you will understand what this song is about. This is a trinity between Child, Daughter and Mother. This is my most personal song. So I’m only prepared to share with you its outline.
People hold the keys to enlightenment. This song is about the moment I understood how connected we all really are. When I look at the mother, I see the past, when I look at the daughter, I see the present and when I look at our child, I see the future.

This song is about a working girl who would twist the cap off a bottle of polish vodka Spyritus, favored by fearless pilots who had to cross Siberia.
Then she would look at you with dead eyes, unable to think, speak and respond normally.
Her only pleasure was teasing the customers, and taking advantage of a naïve nature.“Valentine’s on fire” ends with her demise, when life and times catch up with her.
