WHAT IS MURAL ART?it is an artwork was painted on wall, ceiling or permanent surface

Must harmony when incorporated with architectural elements of given spaces

Two types of mural art -Interior mural-Exterior mural

CLAN JETTY

• Painted by local artist called NAME

• Depicts a calm scene of traditional village called Chew Jetty in Georgetown, Penang.

• The mural art also consist of 3D sampan that is fixed.

FIRST IMPRESSION

• Floating village with each houses in close proximity to each other.

• A few blue sampan and a green sampan tied to a dock.

• No people on the mural art itself – symbolize peace and quiet.

CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

• Depicts the traditional fishing village of Penang, the Chew Jetty.

ARTIFACT

• The green sampan stands out from the rest of the mural art.

SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM

• Sampan represent the hard work and tough lifestyle of the people in Penang back in the days.

• Also represent simplicity.

SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION

• The water appears unmoving and motionless – represent timelessness.

Constructed meaning of the physical world.

BASKETBALL DUNK

Painted by local artist called Mr. Khoo (40)

Depicts a basketball hoop with a ball going into it. One of the player is seen blocking the ball to prevent it from going into the hoop while the other player, who is from the same team, can be seen in the background looking at the ball.

A person may positioned a posture to show that he is the one who dunked the ball.

FIRST IMPRESSION

• Fans standing behind the players give impression that this is a real competitive basketball game.

• Dark background colors represent a sense of something unexpected has happened – Mysterious.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION

• The second player seems shocked while looking at the ball.

• The first player showed a somewhat suprised expression.

• He tries to block the other player from dunking but failed.

BODY POSTURE

• The first player is seen trying to jump to block the opponents dunk with his hand.

• He is trying to reach the ball before it goes in.

SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION

• For people who watches NBA, he might know that the first player is Shaquille O’neal (#34) who played from Lakers. • Both of the

players are considered on of the best in basketball and has played in NBA All Stars.

• The second player is Allen Iverson who played for the other team Philadelphia 76ers.

NON-DOMINANT CULTURE

COMMUNICATION

• It depicts two famous African American basketball players playing in NBA teams.

• Basketball is not the most popular sport in Malaysia.

• Little popularity as compared to football and badminton.

KLANG RIVER

LOCATION: KLANG RIVER, KUALA LUMPUR

• Klang River is a river which flow through Kuala Lumpur and Selangor in Malaysia and eventually flows into the Straits of Malacca for 120 Km

ARTISTS OF KLANG RIVER• GRAFFITI STREET ART WAS SEEN AS REBELLIOUS• GOVT DECIDED TO LET ARTISTS SHOWCASE

THEIR TALENTS• COMPETITION CALLED “KUL SIGN FESTIVAL”RUN

IN 2012, 200 ARTISTS DISPLAYED THEIR TALENTS• CONTESTANTS CAME FROM AS FAR AS HONG

MURAL ART AND WHAT IT REPRESENTS

• Our observation at Klang River: The artists point of view on freedom, liberalism and the

idea of a free world represented through the art

Boy and Klang RiverAlthough it looks simple, but has different meaning on how people perceive it.

Attracts tourist and pedestrian who are nearby Petaling Street, Central Market and Pasar Seni LRT station.

It relates to the place where it illustrates Klang River's Mural art.

It shows the characteristic of the place in art

-Assuming that the boy is sad as he is leaving from Klang area.-At the same time he is looking at the mural art in Klang River

1.Non-verbal CommunicationFrom the picture above, we can see that the lady, who is wearing a hat and gloves, is a bird lover. Here she is trying to communicate with the birds around her through the smoke. From the “love” word that she has created, she is telling the birds that she love them all.

2. Face-to-face communicationThe lady and birds are facing to each others when the non-verbal messages is senting out.

3. Non-verbal cueThe birds so comfort on her palm. It is a non verbal cue communication.

4. Body postureThe lady hold the bird carefully on the her palm, her palm is slightly open in order to not hurting the bird.

5. Symbolic InteractionThe lady had created a "love" word, it is a symbolic of her love to the birds.

6. Connection MeaningThe lady and all the birds surrounded her, they were connected in a lovely atmosphere.
