You set your goals in life on a number of levels:
It gives you a long-term vision to run straight towards.
Goal setting is used by the top-level athletes, successful person in every field.
Why Set Goals?
It makes easier for acquisition of related knowledge.
Make the most efficient use of your time in life.Also raise your self-confidence, being knowing set directions.
Recognize your own ability and competence accordingly.
What is mission and vision, goals and objectives ?
Mission is basically the plan of action whereas
the Vision is the end result of the action.
The goal is where we want to be. The objectives are the steps needed .
D e f I n I t I o n sMission statement – defines your purpose. It's ultimately what you want to achieve in your life, expressed in a specific, measurable way.
Vision statement – defines your core values, and how you'll apply those values to your mission.

A goal -is a desired result plans and commits to achieve the result toward which effort is directed. They are:
Short-term goals Long term goalsPersonal goals
Objectives- something that one's efforts are intended to accomplish the purpose; goal being the object .
