We all want to achieve happiness in our lives. To those who are so stressed with their job only find happiness during the weekends when they don’t have to wake up early and go to work. But the thing is, our work plays a major part in our lives that we cannot simply neglect it for the sake of happiness. So is there a way for most of us to find that happiness in a stressful environment such the office? The answer is yes. Below are ways on how you can find happiness at work.

• Motivate yourself on your way to work. On your way to the office try to remember why you are working. Do not think about the negative things such as bills to pay, the mortgage, the credit card debt, your children’s education, the deadlines and the meetings. Rather think about how lucky you are to have a job so that your family can have a nice home, so that you can put your kids through school, so you can buy a nice gift for your wife / husband and for yourself, etc. No matter how hard work can be, don’t look at it as an everyday punishment. Look at it as a chance to make yourself and your loved ones happy through hard work.

• You are more than your work. There are people whose identity is chained to the job they do. You only work for 9 hours a day. You still have 15 hours to be who you really are and do what you love to do. Stop limiting yourself and start believing that you can do more than what is written on your resume.

• Manage your time. How can you find happiness if you don’t manage your time. Learn to prioritize. Once you clock in focus on getting the job done. Avoid distractions by frequently asking yourself – is this the best use of my time? When you focus all your energy and attention to the tasks at hand you’ll be surprised on how efficiently things get done. You might even find more time to relax and calm your mind.

• Have regular breaks. When you’re starting to feel dull and having problem focusing on the task at hand, step away from your work desk for at least 5 minutes and walk around. Think of something positive and aren’t work related. If you can’t leave your desk, turn off your monitor and close your eyes. Not only you will give your eyes some rest but you’ll also give your mind a time to relax. Just be careful not to doze off.

• Never eat alone. Sometimes when we are stressed we have the urge to just zone out and have our breaks alone. Though this is helpful in some cases, it may do more harm than good. People at the office may perceive you as someone who doesn’t like company and you may end up being alienated. As much as possible, take your breaks or have lunch with an office buddy or two. This is your chance to vent out some of that stress but be careful not to promote negativity.

• Make others happy. When you’re filled with stress and negativity, it doesn’t mean that there’s no positive spark left in you. Bring that out and intensify it by doing positive things. Make others laugh, motivate your co-workers, or do something special like bringing them coffee or some snacks. When you make others happy that positive energy will reflect back to you and replace the negativity that’s eating you away.

• Review your day before you leave the office. Take note of the things you’ve done well and treasure it. If mistakes are made, learn from it then move on. Tomorrow is another day. If you feel satisfied with what you’ve accomplished, why not reward yourself later. You worked hard, I’m sure you deserve it.

• Leave work at the office. If you managed your time well as mentioned above, then you don’t have to bring work at home. You already spent a third of your day working, so do not let it linger any further in your head. Switch off once you leave work. Clock out and be free.

• Be thankful. Don’t forget to be grateful for having a job. There are people out there who don’t have a job to wake up for. Offer a little prayer of thanks once you reach home. Smile, and then meet your family.
