John’s Short Story

This short story talks about one young man, his name is John, he has now eighteen years, his passions are the music and the sports and he has been involved in both outstandingly. This guy has a Colombian citizenship but he is living in the United States of America more specifically in Orlando, Florida. He has a professional music career of more than six years, since he is 12 however he was involved in the music before, playing different instruments such as the bass and the drums. He also used to play for a professional soccer team in Colombia called “Millonarios” back in the year 2010.

We are constantly asking ourselves from where we came? or where are we going?; what we want to do in this life? That actually is very short and sometimes shorter than we think it is. They are a few events in our life that change it and direct us to that purpose we are looking for; some people believe that this events do not change our life, they just think that the event had to happen and it is not a change is just a result for what we have worked or what we are suppose to do. But what is not discussed is that some events have the ability to set one before and after or determine what road we should follow; after some events we can realize that nothing is the same.

John has been a sports lover all his life and he has characterized for his discipline on what he does. He played soccer and tennis during almost all his life, until he was 15 years old. By that time he thought that the soccer was what he wanted to do, even though he has a big passion and talent for the music. By the beginning of the year 2010 some events changed John’s road or at least changed his goals.

By the year 2010 John was in a musical band called “Zoom”. He used to play the bass, sing and also contribute in the composition of their songs. At the same time he was in the band he was playing soccer in a professional team in Colombia called “Millonarios” and his life was basically practicing with his band, going to the team’s training every day and going to the school. In the weekends he played for his soccer team and also perform with his band to different cities in his natal country (Colombia). He was very tired by the end of every week because he used to train 2 or 3 ours each day and also practice with his band more than 7

hours a week, plus his home works, the shows and the soccer games; that was what he loved to do but he had to make a decision to focus in one of them. By May of the year 2010 after being the captain of the soccer team for almost 2 years and part of the band for more than 3 years one event make him take the decision of focusing in only one of his passions.

This young man had a car accident that complicated his sports career but do not stopped his music career. He broke his knee and had a rupture in his ankle; he was away from the soccer fields for one year but closer to the music than ever.

After performing in more than 40 concerts in his country with “Zoom”, and be part of several music fests, singing and playing for thousands of persons. He was realizing that that’s what he wanted to do in his entire life but he used to think about his passion for sports and he never forgot the feeling of scoring a goal and winning one match, in sum he was still doubting. By the end of 2010 he had the opportunity to record one song with one of the most recognized producers in his country, this producer is called “Buxxi”, that in fact he won the award “Shock” for the best musical producer of that year (2010) and Buxxi was starting a career as a singer. All the members of “Zoom” and Buxxi done his best on this song called “Soltera” that stands for single lady in Spanish. They filmed the song video a few months after recording the song and they launched it on April 2 of the year 2011; on April 7 of the same year the video had more than 160,000 views on YouTube.

They were very amazed with the news because that is a very high number for a Colombian artist that is just working in his country, even more if you are starting. Moreover almost 3 years ago YouTube was popular but the videos did not have the same amount of views they have nowadays. He received tens of messages from his friends, family and people who have heard the song, congratulating him and saying him that he was doing a great job. This event end with his doubts and he stopped thinking that may be he had to do therapies and more training to go back to his soccer team.

To conclude, we just got to see the signals that the life is constantly setting in our way to make us realize our road and our mission, after John set his goals he separated from the band and started a career as a singer.
