It’s ok to stay! If you feel you’re not ready , you might not be and it’s ok to

accept it may not be time to leave your job quite yet.

Let your manager know that you do not want to retire any time soon.

Take some time to talk with them about crafting your next job description or new goals for your position so you stay engaged. Make a plan, determine a timeline for retirement in the future and how far out you’d like it to be. Involve your manager in the process, you never know what they will say!

Taking advantage of flex arrangements is a great option.

Instead of leaving completely, you could also work part-time for your current company, so that you have income and the time to think about what you want to do next.

If you choose this option, set a timeframe for this transition or next phase so that you have a tangible and specific plan.

Take some time to explore and tap into those passions you never had time for. What are your passions? Make a list!

Turn a passion into a full time or part time business and work with SCORE, an organization filled with ex business professionals who can help you with your business plan.

Find a business partner who shares the same passion perhaps.

Serve on a board of a non profit or for profit organization you are passionate about.

Look for volunteer opportunities in an area you feel strongly about or gives you a sense of meaning and fulfillment.

You can gain a lot of satisfaction from using your talents to benefit others.

Find organizations in your area, or look online for ways you can serve outside your area virtually perhaps: http://www.idealist.org/info/Volunteer/Online

Consider consulting as an option. Former employers will often hire people back as a consultant, or offer your services to a new organization. This can be a win-win because…

The company would love your expertise, but as a consultant they don’t have to pay for benefits. And you can have greater flexibility.

You can also work on multiple projects at once to give you variety and new challenges, or one at a time. You have greater say in setting your schedule and who you choose to work with.
