Employers are hiring everyday but they complain that there is scarcity of quality talents in the labour market that’s what we call ‘the War for Talent’ in human resources.

Any job seeker (fresh graduates inclusive) that hopes to secure a job with any employer of labour must develop capacity to see from the employers’ perspective.

Every employer is always willing to hire an employee with the hope that such an employee would add ‘value’ to the organization.

Crafting A Winning Résumé

The right mindset for writing a résumé/CV is that of a marketing mindset.

You’re a product being sold to a potential employer and the goal of your résumé is to communicate what you can do.

You have to see your résumé as a marketing tool because that is what it is; employers’ first impression about you.

A résumé would not get you the job but it gives you an interview opportunity.

Résumés are ‘fluid documents’ that need to change for each new job application.

The Right Interview Mindset An interview is a conversation between two or more people where

questions are asked by the interviewer to elicit facts or statements from the interviewee.

In the case of a job interview, the interviewer (usually the employer or recruiter) assesses the interviewee (potential employee) on the suitability to do a job or otherwise.

A job interview is a game of perception so make a great impression.

As a job seeker, the secret sauce to acing any job interview is to make a great impression as fast and deep as you can and leave in a blaze of glory.

A Job interview is more of a game of perception than competence.

What is a Career?

Career describes an individual’s journey through learning, work and other aspects of life.

Career is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as a person’s “course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)”.

One critical factor here is the fact that there is no career without an individual.

The concept of a career is centered round an individual’s life. You would agree with me that your career is your life and not mine.

You are born to solve a problem, meaning your Career is coded into your DNA.

What is Career Development?

Career Development is the lifelong process of managing learning, work and transitions in order to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future.

Career development is how individuals manage their careers within and between organizations or how organizations structure the career progress of their employees.

Career development is a personal responsibility every individual must take and not to be left to the organization

Self Discovery & Your Career

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment’

– Lao Tzu

Many fail to realize that looking for a job without the realization of who they are is planning to fail in their career journey.

‘Can you tell me about yourself?’

This question is actually about self-discovery and your answer helps employers know if you have discovered your own ‘unique value proposition’ which is deeply embedded in your personality.

Self assessment is instrumental in the continuous journey (not an event) of self-discovery.

Playing to Your Strengths - People excel by maximizing strengths, not by fixing their weaknesses.

Strength = Talent + Knowledge + Skills

Setting Your Passion Free - Passion, drive, motivation, zeal, intense emotion, compelling enthusiasm or desire for anything.

Working with the right set of people (cultural fit) - “everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
