12 “Dont do this!”for happiness@work

Jeff Haden published at inc.com “10 Daily Habits of Exceptionally Happy People”. In fact Jeff describes bad manners, lack of respect, criticizes egocentric behavior and instead of habits he lists a mixture of attitudes, values and habits. Surprisingly I counted 12 and not 10 . It is a nice list of things we should consider not only at work. The title is clearly inspired by my virtual mentor Stephen Covey’s “7 habits of highly effective people”.

I tried to turn the title’s of the 12 “Dont’s” into 12 “Do’s” as that means proactivity and action. I put them in a slide deck to make it an easy read for you.

1. Don’t blame others – Be auto critical

2. Silence and take your phone away from the table

3. Only focus on the meeting and the people in the room

4. Listen actively, let people finish and don’t interrupt

5. Don’t waste your time with the wrong people

6. Isolate and stay focused - Don’t allow distractions

7. Take action if things go wrong: Go and fix it

8. Live every day if it would be the first one!

9. Only if you take risks you will earn great results

10. Be fair, honest and respectful if you talk about others

11. Be yourself and stand with your values and convictions

12. Have courage - Overcome your doubts and fears
