Purpose
• Why transport wine over long distances
Main reason: commercial purpose
The purpose of long distance transport
wine is to promote economic
prosperity and development
(Making more money for their
own winery). Especially this is
an economic globalization time.
Sample:
NZ Pinot noir 10 dollar per bottle NZ
NZ Pinot noir 20 dollar per bottle China
With lower transport cost, the same wine can make more money.
If the same wine price is 5 dollar in China and it will not increase in a long future. Then the wine transport dose not happen.
Other Purpose
• Culture export
• Promote economic exchange
• Intellectual property protection
History
• Old type
Clay Amphorae , clay jar
Barrels, ceramic(Chinese).
2000 years ago, people know low temperature can protect wine. They dug cellar and use ice protect wine, also they try transport wine at night with ice.

The way of transport wine
• Truck and Trailer
limited weight, Fuel cost, Lite of wine hold.Flexibility than ship bulk. Insulated boxcars are available with the temperature control.
• Ship Bulk
Flexi-tank and ISO-tank
Plastic bag and stainless steel tank, Lower cost, Huge volume availible, Suit for cross ocean.
Preparatory work
• Physical
Temperature
Broken bulk
Leaking
Natural disasters
• Chemical
Oxidation
Re-fermentation
Spoilage
High VA & TA
Bulk, tank and barrel can protect by cushion. Cover with double-deck container in physical. Keep low temperature and isolation wine from oxygen in chemical.
Cost calculate
• Flexi-tank or ISO-tank contain wine around 25,000L.
wine increase price per bottle =
Total transport cost/(25,000L/0.75L)
0.75L is one bottle wine.
Sale price per bottle = original price + increase price
Future
• The most important is wine temperature control in transport.
• Underground pipeline is good way to more develop in future.
• Solve the carbon emission.
• Package by bio-plastic container.
