THE WEDA PROJECTS SYSTEM:How It Works and How to Submit

Page 2: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

THIS SLIDESHOW WILL TEACH YOU:

• What a Project Alert means to you• How Members Can Submit to Leads• How to Get Updates on Proposals

Page 3: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

As soon as we identify a potential project, we send our membership a Project Alert.

Page 4: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

The Project Alert contains everything an EDC needs to create a tentative proposal.

The goal is to not spend a great deal of time on any proposal right away. This is meant to be a ‘teaser.’

Page 5: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

Once WEDA receives your proposal, we forward it onto the project. At this point we have already reached out to them, but the majority of our successful projects have responded to tentative proposals.

Companies like to know that they have an interested city, without feeling like they have to give anything up.

WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?

Page 8: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

What to submit on these project alerts is one of the more frequently asked questions we get.

Page 9: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

The secret to these proposals is to be brief and get their attention.

- Cover Letter- Infographic- Sample Location

A COVER LETTER: Your cover letter should be a quick

response to what appear to be main points in the Project Alert. In other words, address the projects needs with specifics.

Page 11: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

For Example: For a shipping company, you would highlight

a deep-water port or an extensive highway system.

For a meat processing company, you might highlight the presence of large processing facilities already in the city.

An Infographic or One Page Flyer:

The purpose is to convey as much information about your city as quickly as possible. Using something visual, like an infographic, makes this very easy.

Page 13: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

This will be a standard flyer that you can submit on all of your projects. It should include a map, population, star companies and list some of the best points of your area.

The purpose is to give a decision-maker a 30-second introduction to your area, as visually as possible.

Page 14: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

The final item is to include one or two sample locations or business parks.

You only want one or two. More than that and you are likely to put them off by guessing what they need.

Page 15: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

It is that simple!Three or four pages is all the you should submit.

If you read through it and it takes more than 2 minutes, it is too long.

Page 16: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

Then WEDA sends your proposal, on your letterhead, to the project. Even if they don’t choose you, they have seen your name and might remember you for future expansions.

Page 17: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

WEDA will continue to follow up with them.Even if we haven’t heard in years, we

continue to email and call in the hopes of getting YOU in front of them for their expansion and relocation.

FOLLOW UP AND UPDATES

Page 19: World Economic Development Alliance Project submission system

One of the most frequent complaints that we we hear from EDCs is that they are never updated regarding projects they get from the state or other sources.

WEDA does everything we can to update you as often as possible.

However, sometimes we will send through 30 proposals in a single week and updates can take up to two to three weeks. But rest assured we are on top of it!
