  • 1. Wiley Can you hear meft. Skepta, Chipmunk and Ms DAnalysis of music videos

2. Video analysis For the second video analysis of Wileys songs, Ichose to do can you hear me (ayayaya). 3. Genre The genre of this song is grime/dance. The audience for this song could be limited, asthere is a rave and dance scene shown in thevideo, such that an older demographic wouldntlike to watch. It follows conventions of a grime video, seen as itshows the artists as famous with a crowd wantingthem. 4. Audience A younger generation would be more inclined towatch this video as the mise-en-scene suggestsfashion and money. Other demographics could be involved inwatching this, as it is part of a grime genre and adance genre, therefore the target audience of themusic itself is not limited too much. 5. Narrative The narrative of this song involves a lot ofyoungsters having a good time, and the artistsperforming to a crowd in a party/rave. The dancesequences and breakdancing shown representsthe dance in the song, and when the artists areperforming proves a grime genre. 6. Representation Male gaze is not shown in this video, as the focusis not on females, more on performance anddancing. When performing to the crowd, a star image isconstructed. The want to be shown as successful, therefore they are performing to a crowd insteadof having fun with that crowd in a party forexample. They would like to be seen as superior.Having jewellery on such as the gold chain wornby Skepta helps show superiority. 7. Characteristics A major characteristic of this video is dance. Thisis shown to prove the dance genre in the song, adifferent style for Wiley. Therefore he thought hewould have to show dance scenes to show thedifferentiation. In the chorus where it says can you hear me, itshows one of the dancers pointing to hear as if torepresent the lyrics. Also, when Skepta says lightskin with a beautiful body it cuts to a close up ofa womans body. 8. Visuals/music The song is never really slow, so therefore neitherare the shots. Throughout there are dancescenes and people raving in time to the beat.Furthermore, the artists dance along at certainpoints to emphasise the dance beat.Artist The artists in this video would like to be shown asfamous and known. This is because they areperforming to a crowd and singing along onmicrophones whereas everyone else in the videothat say the lyrics dont have a microphone. 9. Intertexuality Intertexuality is shown in can you hear me whenthey use the microphones to sing into. Also, theboom box used by the dancers showsintertexuality too.Voyeurism The video doesnt focus on a voyeuristicapproach, although, there are women in therethat would be shown to sell the product so thereis definitely a small voyeuristic message withinthe video.
