Why did different groups of people come to the new world?

The Spaniards came to the new world for many different reasons. Some of which include the search for gold, fortune, and the Seven Golden Cities of Cibola. Some of them such as Francisco Pizzaro, wanted to explore and conquer the land of a wealthy Indian empires.

The French came to America for the hope of finding gold and other valuable resources. They also came to colonize the new world and have better lives.

Portuguese Jews emigrated early to America as well as to many other countries to escape the persecution in their home land. Portuguese are thought to have reached the Antilles before Columbus.

The Dutch came to America and collected mainly around New Netherland in 1624. It was mainly used as a trading post for many profitable furs.

The English made it to America in 1492. Some of the English came to America for freedom of religion. Others come for the promise of wealth. Most of them came because many of the English believed that Great Britain and the church were becoming too powerful.
