Facebook acquires Instagram for $1 bullion
By Laurie Segall | CNNMoney.com – Mon, Apr 9, 2012 1:41 PM EDT
Facebook has agreed to buy photo sharing network Instagram for $1 billion in a combination of
cash and stock, the company announced Monday.
It's Facebook's biggest acquisition ever, in both price and reach. With around 30 million active
users, Instagram has the largest audience of any startup Facebook has purchased, Facebook CEO
Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post.
Mark Zuckerberg says:
“I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team
will be joining Facebook.
For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and
family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best
experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.
We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well,
we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than
just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.”
Facebook Acquires Indian Founded Tagtile By SiliconIndia | Monday, 16 April 2012, 22:30 Hrs
California: The mobile spending spree of Facebook is not going to end with the
acquisition of Instagram for $1 billion. It has acquired another mobile loyalty start up
Tagtile for an undisclosed amount. The San Francisco based Tagtile is a loyalty and
direct marketing solution designed to grow the users business, and will continue to serve
its existing customers but is not taking on any new clients. The founders of Tagtile will
join Facebook as employees.
Co-Founded by Abheek Anand and Soham Mazumdar in 2011, Tagtile helps local
businesses identify, engage and increase repeat purchases from customers through a
frictionless loyalty and direct marketing solution. Anand is also the CEO of the company,
where he focuses on engineering, and marketing. Prior to this, he worked in Product
Management at Engine Yard, as an investor at Lightspeed Venture Partners, and as an
early engineer at VMware. He holds a BSCS from IIT Delhi, an MSCS from the
University of Maryland, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
'Mobile marketing will grow 10-fold in India'
By Vishnu Makhijani | IANS India Private Limited – Tue 13 Dec, 2011
New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS) India's mobile marketing space, which some analysts estimate at
Rs.600 million ($11 million), will grow 10-fold in the next five years, says the Finnish pioneer of
the concept.
'Mobile marketing has started to grow rapidly in India as the brands see the opportunities
beyond just internet options. My estimation is the marketplace in mobile marketing in India will
grow 10-fold within the next five years,' Antti Ohrling, co-founder in 2005 of the Blykmobile
marketing company, told IANS in an e-mail interview.
While Ohrling has now decided to move on from Blyk, he plans to maintain a close connect with
India, where he introduced the company a year ago and where it has over one million opted-in
users and has delivered 40 mobile advertising campaigns.
'I have planned to stay extremely close to India, as the potential really is here,' Ohrling said about
the country, which has 881 million mobile phone connections. Mobile marketing is a service that
subscribers opt for as opposed to pesky SMSes.
'India is a tremendously interesting market and it can change the mobile market also globally.'
