That's because asuccessful businessleader is often aneffective ProjectManager.

NBC's 'The Apprentice' puts ProjectManagers front and centre.

Many projects succeed.Unfortunately, many do not.

In my 15 years of projectexperience, I've observedfive main reasons forproject failure.

1. Poor Business Requirements.

Invest the time with yourteam to truly understandthe business problemyou're trying to solve.

2. Underestimating Team Dynamics.

Team members must go through the FOURstages of team development: forming, storming, norming, and performing.

3. Lack of Face to FaceConversations.

Stop the email madness!Have a live conversationand "make the implicit,

EXPLICIT".

Project resultsdramatically improvewhen all stakeholders

are at the table.

4. Absence of Front-LineStakeholders.

An active project sponsorcommunicates up, down andacross the organization to help

evangelize your project.

5. Disengaged Project Sponsor.

Projects Are About People!

Projects are complex andchallenging.  They are also a

heck of a lot of fun!

The next time you watch 'CelebrityApprentice' or are experiencing

project challenges, determine if any ofthe above reasons may be present.
