UK implementation of Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive
Large enterprises required to undertake energy audits every four years
Coverage includes off-shore industry
Does not apply to public bodies
Likely to cover over 10,000 UK organisations

Qualification
Phase 1 qualification day 31 Dec’ 2014
Covers an undertaking that has:
at least 250 employees; or
an annual turnover in excess of €50 million (~£42.5 million) and an annual balance sheet total €43m (~£36.5 million)
Is part of a corporate group which includes an undertaking which meets the above criteria

Ensure at least 90% of UK energy usage covered by:
ESOS compliant energy audit
Display Energy Certificate
Green Deal Assessment
Certified ISO 50001 Energy Management System
Identify improvement opportunities
Phase 1 notification deadline 5 December 2015
Environment Agency role:
oUK scheme administrator
• Set up and administer process for participant notifications
• Provide helpdesk support and compliance guidance
• Approve registers of energy auditors
• Publish information – GOV.UK website
oRegulator
• Audit and enforce in England
