Welcome to
Aberdeen
Aberdeen is in the north-east of Scotland.It is the 3rd biggest city in Scotland.
Scotland is part of the United Kingdom.
Aberdeen is on the coast of Scotland. It is next to the North Sea.
Aberdeen is known as ‘the silver city by the sea’ or ‘the granite city’ as many of the buildings have been built with granite which was mined in Aberdeen from Rubislaw quarry. When the sun shines, the buildings sparkle.
The quarry is not used any more. All that is left is the biggest man made hole in Europe!
Marshall College, part of the university, is built from granite. It was the second biggest granite building in the world.
Aberdeen has many old buildings.

This huge glass cube is the new library for the university.It opened in August 2011.
This is Aberdeen harbour.
There used to be fishing boats but now the boats are there to go out and support the oil-rigs in the North Sea.
The oil industry is very important in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen has won ‘Britain in Bloom’ many times.
Flowers grow in lots of places.
Every year in Hazlehead Park Aberdeen hosts their Highland games. There is
music, dancing and sporting competitions.
This is Pittodrie. The home of Aberdeen Football Club.
