SEBI rejects MCX-SX plea for operations

SEBI has rejected the MCX-SX’s applications for stock and debt trading platforms stating non-compliance with the shareholding rules.

SONALIKA to produce LUXURY car

Hoshiarpur-based International Cars & Motors Ltd, a venture of the Rs.5,000-crore Sonalika Group, has developed a luxury car for the global market by 2012. Delhi Metro to reserve coach for women from Oct 2

The reserved ladies’ coach will be the first after the driver’s cab in every train.

Children up to 12 years, accompanied by women passengers, will also be allowed to travel in the reserved coach

The decision was taken by DMRC managing director E. Sreedharan, keeping in view a number of requests received from various quarters and because about a quarter of the total passengers travelling on the Delhi Metro consists of women passengers.

Tata Motors to launch Aria

Tata Motors will launch Aria a cross-over between a multi-utility and sports utility vehicle within a month.

Aria sports a 2.2-litre common rail diesel engine and blends the functionality and comfort of a mid-range MPV with the all-terrain assurance and premiumness of an SUV.

Safety features include 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), offered by an Indian manufacturer for the first time.

Weston forays into mobile handset market

Consumer electronics firm Weston is entering into the Indian mobile phone market.

Their vision is to introduce the most affordable handsets in India keeping in mind the features to price ratio.

The company today launched seven models between a price range of Rs 1600 to Rs 3500.

Hyundai to raise capacity to ensure 22% market share

South Korean car maker, Hyundai, plans to tweak its existing Indian operations to expand the manufacturing capacity.

It aims to take its share to 22% of the total cars sold in the domestic market.

From beverages to noodles, its expansion time for FMCG firms

Some of the country’s leading FMCG companies – they include Nestle, Coca-Cola and Tata Coffee – are investing over `1,800 crore in the next few months to expand capacity or for inorganic growth.

Nestle India is investing `950 crore to set up two units to manufacture instant noodles and infant foods in Karnataka and Haryana

Beverage major Coca-Cola India is investing `550 crore to set up a greenfield beverage plant in Yadgir district of northern Karnataka

Tata Coffee, as part of its ambition to become a global plantation company, is scouting for coffee plantations in Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia and Laos. The aim is to ensure that 40 per cent of the company’s topline comes from inorganic growth by 2015. If everything goes to plan, around 30 per cent of the company’s coffee production will come from overseas plantations.
