Europe vs United States

Peak year for Cloud Adoption in Europe was two to five years ago, Peak in the US one to two years ago. Due to the headstart the US has 13% more Companies still planning for the Cloud.

Companies in Europe use more Public Cloud Services then their North American

Counterparts, with exception of Cloud Recovery Services

European Climate

European organizations continue to weather a double dip recession that began in 2008. There has been very limited new European investment in IT equipment or headcount. North American companies have not dealt with as drastic a finacial crisis.


Cloud Adoption Rates Data Archiving on SaaS:

Cloud Storage is the second most widely adopted Public Cloud service after SaaS. A sizable minority of SaaS users are Archiving their data in the Public Cloud 28% respond that having an active SaaS data archiving program.

25% of Large Enterprise are far more likely to use eDiscovery services for SaaS.

Just because the application is outside the firewall doesn’t mean the data isn’t important!!

For EMC the biggest Opportunity is the Small and Mid-Sized Cloud Storage Market (48% of the addressable opportunity)


Hybrid Cloud, en emerging Market for Enterprise

Only 5% of Small and Mid-sized companies with a Public Cloud reported having a Hybrid Cloud, 7% of Large Enterprises reported to have a Hybrid Cloud.

Hybrid Cloud users are the heavy users of Cloud Technology, this market is just starting, most are just 1 to 2 years old (see picture 1)

In 54% of Cloud choices are done (procured) by a Line of Business, in 10% IT was only informed, not involved, in 36% IT was consulted without final approval.


Barriers to Cloud adoption by Enterprises (IDC EU ’12)


EU Cloud Market

The European Commission's new strategy for "Unleashing the potential of cloud computing in Europe" outlines actions to deliver a net gain of 2.5 million new European jobs, and an annual boost of EUR 160 billion to EU GDP (around 1%), by 2020.

EU Policy actions to remove Barriers could have a positive effect on Cloud spending, the EU believes this can grow the Cloud business from €35 billion to €80 billion in 2020.

The Global Top 100 CSPs saw their annual cloud revenues surge 37 percent to $15.7 billion in 2012.

On the virtualization front Vmware (76.2%) remains the preferred partner, Citrix (33.3%), MSFT Hyper-V (34.9%), Oracle (7.5%), Redhat (8.6%), KVM (6.5%)
