Sada ZeroWaste segregation – how ?

Page 2: Waste segration - How ? Startup doc

What is waste segregation?

Separation of our home waste into:1. Wet waste – from kitchen, garden

2. Dry waste. - Paper + cardboard - Plastic + metal - e-waste + glass

Page 3: Waste segration - How ? Startup doc

What happens to mixed waste?

Rag pickers go through waste to pick out recyclable waste, sell it to scrap dealers.

What happens to segregated waste?

Scarce non-renewable raw material is saved – trees for paper, petroleum for plastic, ore for metals.Waste collectors keep the money, their families improve.

Why should we segregate?

To prevent this1. Waste dumps around the city breeding Cholera, typhoid...2. Wet waste and toxins from e-waste getting into our ground water.3. Plastic being burned, polluting our air.

To enable this1. Improve our environment2. Recycle dry waste and reduce use of scarce raw material3. Improve the lives of waste collectors.

What's in it for me?

A nice warm feeling that:1. You have improved the health & earnings of waste collectors.2. You are improving the environment, cleaning your neighbourhood.

Waste landfill in Mavallipura on the outskirts of Bangalore. 3000 tons (3 Lakh kg) of garbage are added every day.

If the whole of Bangalore adopts segregation, this can be reduced by 90 %, or (optimistically) even by 100 %. You are a part of this great movement.
