transport
carry
Wave carry or transport
eroded materials along
its journey
The eroded materials are
called ……….
Sediments
DEFINITION
By now, You should already
know the four ways how
river transported its load.
Note that transportation
process in coastal areas
are the same as the
transportation process in
the river
•Larger particles like boulders and rocks
roll or slide along the river bed by the
strong river flow.
•Smaller particles like gravels and stones
are lifted and dropped along the river, so
they bounce along the river bed in a
hopping motion.
•Finer particles such as clay, fine sand
and silt are carried along the river without
contact with the river bed.
•Because the river water is moving, the
fine particles or loads are almost able to
float, and they are suspended in the
moving water.
•Dissolved materials containing minerals
like limestone rocks are slowly dissolved
by rainwater and are carried away by the
river.
•This type of transportation is difficult to
see with the naked eye but they are in the
water.
Pebble My life's a single pebbleThe tide takes from the beach, Lost among the breakersThe shore is out of reach.
I drift so far from others, My hope is out of hand,
I’m getting older, smaller-rolled to a distant land.
I started as a cliff,
And now I’ve turned to sand.

Erosion
‘I broke off the cliff’
The waves were crashing under me ,
it was a stormy night.
I could feel everything vibrating,
then suddenly I started to break off,
I tried to hold on, but I was heavy,
I started to fall…….
I landed in….it was cold……
I kept spinning around….
other rocks kept bumping in to me…
Transportation
‘A Bumpy Ride’’
Scared and cold I was thrown around by the oceans force, I was rolling around the sea floor, other rocks bashing into me, the waves carried me away further from my home. ….. rolling, bounced, carried, dropped
Material carried along the shore• Group discussion (2-3 students in 1 group)
• Analyze the video (Youtube: Longshore drift )
• Discuss with your friends
• Make a short description of what you see on the video
• Send your finish work to blog spot under the comment section on
this sub-topic (Transportation)
• Time: 20 minutes
• All members have to post their work all at the same time (wait for
teacher instruction to do so)
You should include these words:
Swash, back wash, prevailing wind, angle, continue, wave, zig-zag
pattern
Long shore drift
Overall
process of
transportation
Continual swash
and backwash
transport
materials
sideways along
the coast
The movement of
materials is
called long shore
drift
Occur in Zigzag
