DESCRIPTION
ISPIM workshop organised by ACTIF-Europe on how to embed values in the innovation value chain to better support societal sustainable development. After crisis, political affairs and mis-trust of citizens and individuals in systems, banks and governments or institutions, it is time to re-build trust and confidence. Ensuring values not only in the intermediary innovation projects but in the whole process towards visible outcomes to citizens and individuals is a must. EU funding support and projects can help us in this approach at a practical level. Let's join to develop such projects.

How do we take (make) decisions ?
“So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable creature, …
… since it enables one to find or make a reason for anything one has a mind to do.”
Benjamin Franklin

Can Sustainable Development pertain without ethics, privacy, trust for its citizens and
stakeholders ?
Ethics - Incorporating sustainable business practices into company strategy (Fowler & Hope, 2006) – Patagonia Case.
Privacy – CSR 2.0 need a web 2.0 technology that gives a powerful and safe online experience to users. (looking forward to the FI-Future Internet).
Trust - Corporate responsibility, trust, and sustainable development : the case of St. Petersburg's industrial firms in 2004, (Blom et al, 2006).
The more there is Openness in the firm's contact with the external social environment, …… The higher the level of Social Responsibility of the management.

Rationale
Sustainability: to be seen dynamic it doesn’t implies immobilism nor blocked in timeit requires innovation to pertain wellness, wellbeing, and societal and individual development.
(Open / Participative) Innovation can support sustainable development & society, only if founded on values supporting the context, e.g.:
to re-conciliate citizens/individuals with the society and democracy principles; with the systems (Values and principles are supported when basic needs are fulfilled).
to support wellbeing instead of mechanical performance only.
© ACTIF-Europe – ISPIM 15/06/2011 – Towards Sustainability: Values on the Innovation value chain - EU projects 54
Small background on values
Values: fundamental references to specific groups /communitiesValues are non-negotiable (in general).Values can be shared/supported when basic needs are fulfilled. It is important to identify these values when building, acting in, or exchanging with communities: Values we can share and work jointly with, Values we may have difficulties for a common ground.A simpler or a pre-approach of values can be the definition of common terms of references, MoUs, internal rules (weak).Informal or non-formal set of values can also arise from a peer approach which can be transposed into etiquette and in tribes /community codes before being expressed and cultivated into a set of official / formal values.

1st Digital Agenda Assembly on Trust
Trust is established and granted by an individual to a person or process.Trust contains a number of elements:1. An actor is vulnerable to the actions of another actor.2. The vulnerable actor has an expectation they will be treated fairly.3. The vulnerable actor can be harmed if their treatment is not fair.4. The vulnerable party has low or no control in the relationship.
Trust: usually between 2 people. Also seen in relationships within and between social groups like families, friends, communities, businesses, nations.Trust: usually presented in very personal and interpersonal terms. The recent rapid progress of Information technology has personal, social, and commercial consequences for giving and establishing trust. Especially true where the “trust” has to be given to remote machines, intermediaries or uncertified / unaccountable actors.Trust lapses are generally forgiven more easily and rapidly where they occur because of incompetence rather than a lack of fairness or honesty.
